In today’s digitally connected world, Shavone Charles knows the message is everything.
Shavone currently presides at VSCO as Director of Communications and Creative Partnerships — the popularity of the photo editing app in today’s golden age of Instagram means that her work speaks for itself. As the first African-American woman to join tech giants Twitter and Instagram’s communications teams, Shavone has been breaking barriers from day one in leading novel projects involving top talent from music and popular culture. Her work centers on the future generation, collaborating with Gen-Z’s formidable creative community and musical talents on editorial work and media campaigns. Her expertise runs the gamut from youth culture, wellness, diversity, lifestyle, fashion, and beauty to art; not least including Magic in Her Melanin, a creative organization that focuses on elevating the stories of people of color by bridging the gap between those creatives and the tech industry. Her most recent project includes the #BlackJoyMatters, an initiative started at VSCO with the aim of encouraging people to share their personal stories on social media focusing on positivity and joy at its heart. A multi-hyphenate whose occupations include model, musician, activist, and self-described disruptor, Shavone is the epitome of the high-functioning creative whose persona and personal journey embodies the spirit of a true Performance Changer.
