Acer teamed up with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Taiwan to build a Material Information System (MIS) for critical medical supplies and Taiwan Healthcare-Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (THAS), tools which allow more than 1500 top medical officials and personnel in Taiwan to get accurate data at any moment during this global outbreak.
The MIS connects more than 2000 hospitals, medical units and warehouses located around Taiwan and provides real-time information about the stock levels of key medical supplies in each site. Using this information, medical officials can better make decisions about how to share available medical supplies between sites and when it’s necessary to request more stock because expected demand will exceed the vicinity’s available supply.
The THAS enables access to infection cases in over 600 hospitals, allowing hospital managers and medical officials to monitor infection dynamics and employ timely counter measures to help prevent an in-hospital outbreak. The big data from THAS also gives doctors insights into which medications are working better or worse against certain germs, thus providing hospital management with solid data to help establish policy on certain medications.Ensuring a stable and well-functioning hospital system is a key step towards successfully fending off a pandemic, and these IT systems developed by AEB, Acer’s subsidiary in the IT service sector, exemplify why Taiwan has been able to earn respect from the global community during this time.
