How do I get sound from my mini-Toslink to DAC without having to use the HDMI? Aspire A 315-42

I don't want the tv on while listening to music and I bought the Aspire A 315-42 precisely because it comes with a digital optical outlet. It definitely has one and I've tested the cable. I read that ACER prefers me to use the HDMI cable for S/PDIF audio outlet but I'd rather not. Does anyone have an idea about how to fix this? Does ACER provide direct help for new laptops? I don't see a link for that.

I don't understand what you mean by a "Digital Optical Outlet" There is no outlet with that name for your model. Below are the outlets your model comes with

The audio jack is a combo. It is supposed to be able to deliver ordinary sound and digital optical sound but it doesn't do the latter. I have the same problem and bought this particular model for that reason too.
