Aspire 5740 Windows 7 OS can't install Adobe CS6

I have an Aspire 5740. My system info shows I have Windows 7 (Home Premium, service pack 1) 64 bit OS on my Aspire 5740.  I need to install Adobe CS6 on my system, however I get the following message upon beginning installation: 

 

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows that you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

 

I've tried downloading the CS6 again and again, but get the same message every time I try to install it. 

I've had the same problem trying to install Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.  It is as if my system info reports I have a 64 bit system, but the Adobe software thinks it isn't 64 bit.

 

Any ideas?
