ProShield won't register fingerprint

I just purchased an Acer Travelmate TMP645. This model has a fingerprint reader between the touchpad buttons, and I was looking forward to using this as an alternative to having to type my windows password all the time. When attempting to set up the included ProShield software with the fingerprint reader, it has me scan my finger 6 times, and after the 6th "successful" scan I get a message that it was unable to register, and it kicks me back to the beginning. I've tried this now on both index finders and thumbs, and it has the same issue every time. What do I have to do to get the software to correctly register my fingerprints?

Are you scanning your finger top to bottom, or bottom to top? Try scanning it from bottom to top to see if it has any change. I want to say I recall a thread where someone was having a similar problem, but I can't find it now.
