Hi folks,

I'm trying to re-install Windows 8.

I found some interesting information in the forum on how to do so, but I'm still having problems.

I got some interesting instructions from: http://community.acer.com/t5/Tablets/Acer-Iconia-W700-Recovery-using-System-DVD/td-p/26357

with the following proceedures:

To perfom a fresh windows 8 install or full recovery:

1. You need a USB DVD drive. (I just bought one and returned it)
2. Make sure BIOS is in UEFI mode.
3. Move the USB DVD drive up as first boot device (you may have to reboot into BIOS a second time to change this)
4. Turn off FAST boot in BIOS
5. Insert DVD into drive.
6. Hold w700 power button down for 6 seconds
7. Power ON.

But itñs not working.

My situation:

I have an external DVD drive.

My BIOS is in UEFI mode.

My USB DRIVE is priority boot.  (actually in my Bios it says USB CD  not Usb Dvd.)

Turn off FAST boot in BIOS

Inserted DVD 1 and the Recovery DVD and it´s not BOOTING.

The DVD turns on but loads up my Windows 8 instead of the installation DVD.

Can someone PLEASE help.

Thanks,

steve

This is REALLY giving me grey hair!

I've installed many OS in the past Win95,win98,winxp,Vista,Win7 and NEVER had a problem.

This is BEYOND ME.  I don't know why they have made it so complicated!

I followed the instructions down to the T, and i still can't get it to boot from my DVD.  The DVD spins but it's not booting.

YES the DVD is working fine.  I just bought it today.  It reads perfectly fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you manage to log into the BIOS setup and move your USB DVD as first boot device

    RESOLVED.

All my problems have been solved with the re-installation.

Some lessons learned I'd like to share.

When you start the recovery process you have 4 DVDs.   Well which one do you booth with?

    ANSWER: SYSTEM DVD

Afterwards it will ask you for the revoery disc 1 & 2.

When it ask you for a LANGUAGE DVD, you should insert the DVD that says "RECOVERY DVD"

Guys, this was a REAL PAIN!   Was it worth it? YES!

Hope you don't have to go through what i had to.

I'm happy the bluetooth drivers are now working correctly. Now you know how to recover the system it won't be so hard next time. My install took around 15 minutes but the re-installation of the desktop apps and the million updates to Windows 8 took a while longer.

So far, with the new installation, the w700 seems to working much better.

I have NOT updated the Bluetooth drivers but they seem to be working fine.  furthermore, I had windows proceede with some update and now i disabled further updates as they tend to take up too much space on my 64gb ssd.

    Bluetooth driver 8.0.0.209

    Wifi Driver 11.13

question:  If i ever decide to upgrade to windows 8.1.   How woulkd i go about installing it?
