W510 - WiFi slows down on battery power

My W510 gets 25 Mbps download speed when plugged in, only 3 when on battery power. Acer's power plan minimizes the power level of the wireless adapter, and that reduces the strength of the signal received. This should be avoided by adjusting Wireless Adapter Settings through Power Options (Advanced Settings), but somehow Acer (or Microsoft) does not let you access that setting.

Anybody suffering the same issue? Any suggestion, registry trick, anything...?

Looking at a tablet here, I'm certainly able to access the "Change advanced power settings" under Edit Plan Settings for Power Options.

When you are in Control Panel, under Power Options, what are you seeing instead?

I too just tested this out and it's accessible on my end as well.

Updated to 8.1 through the Windows store and my W510 wireless was sitting on 32 Mb/s whether plugged in or not. This was about 45 feet and a floor below the router in the equipment closet. Do recall a new Broadcom driver being in there.
