I've just received a W510 and noticed the tragically bad wifi. In looking into the issue I noticed that when on power the wifi is fine but as soon as power is removed the wifi falls off badly until the point where it just dies. So off power I see the wifi issues everyone else has reported. With the power plugged in it behaves flawlessly and wifi strength is reported higher and the connections remain fast and stable. Even just doing a download you can watch the transfer speed race up once you attach the power plug.
So I am wondering is this just far too aggressive power management operating here? Maybe we can find a way to disable the power management hobbling the wifi!?

Just wondering if anyone has successfully upgraded the wifi to 5.93.97.76 driver. After I manually installing it I get the limited connection problem after start up. I used one of the troubleshooting tools (sorry cant remember which one atm) and it showed that it was pointing to oem21.in (in C:\windows\inf) and the details said that it was still using 5.93.97.68, even though under the driver tab for the wifi showed it was .76 .
When I contacted Acer support they had me uninstall the device under Device Manager, then scan for hardware and windows automatically sets it up, but it puts me back to the .68 driver. It works ok but I have to wait about a minute for the wifi to connect to the internet, which stinks because I like to use the internet right away.
So again just wondering if anyone got the .76 to actually work properly. It seems to me that the driver is not installing properly.

Well I can see I'm not the only idiot who bought this. This thread has been running since November of 2012! This is supposed to be an Internet capable device. How can you connect to the Internet when the wifi adapter keeps dropping IP addresses after sleep or power down mode. Interesting eh? Sounds like someone didn't do their driver homework or worse poor engineering? I think I'll take this issue of releasing products that have known bugs to Acer's Facebook page!

New WiFi drivers (5.93.97.113) and BIOS (1.92) posted on the Acer support site.

Well the new driver package and wifi drivers did the trick and fixed my problem. I only wish that Acer support had been upfront about the problem because they told me to do a system recovery. I wasted the better part of a day and managed to screw up my windows updates in the process, and had to spend another day doing a system restore. Shame on you Acer!

ok so think i have it sussed
- download the latest wifi driver .113
- uninstall the old wifi driver and tick the box about deleting the driver
- reboot
- install the new wifi driver.
at first it didnt work (had errors in device manager) and wouldnt show any networks
so i uninstalled and reinstalled and then it showed networks to connect to
-reboot again for good measure
now hopefully you have small batter drain mine was 2% overnight (about 8-9 hrs)
alot better than 1%/hr or the really bad 20% overnight i had been getting

Hi, I'm looking at possibly getting one of these. Are there still wifi issues or any others I would want to know about?
Thanks

Hi
as someone who just manages to use technology - am not well versed in fixing it.
Like most postings - I have a serious prob with the wifi - that keeps dropping off...and as I am in Brasil (but bought the piece in the UK) - ringing the Acer 0871 number does not work - and the Acer general website is down (v strange)...so no online chat support available...
I have trawled through the postings - and read different solutions - but am still at a loss as to which one to try - for fear of it all going completely Pete Tong...and this wifi issue is seriously doing my head in...
Any words of wisdom - greatly appreciated...
Cheers
