Re: Button issues with Acer Aspire Switch

The solution is marked because it is Acer's response to resolve the issue. I marked as a solution because I've seen several people asking for Acer to provide a solution since posting and I want to make sure people coming to the thread have been chance of reading that post. Many people will not go through pages of posts to find look for that post, especially if they do not know it is there.

From my discussion with teams globally, they are prepared, if you've had a recent repair (after my post on 8/25/2014) and continue to have issues, please send me a private message with your Serial Number and Repair Number. I'd like to have the team in that area review to ensure that everything was handled properly.

Thanks,
Cory

Re: Button issues with Acer Aspire Switch

OK.. Here's my 2 cents.  This is a hardware issue caused my the placement of the magnetic latch, and the windows home button, on the touch screen.  This is why if you look at the new version of the switch 10, (012) it has been relocated to the side at the top of the tablet half.

The real solutions is to return you device ASAP. As I have done and wait, if you want another switch 10, until they start selling the new version here.  I believe the reason for the wait, they still have the 011 versions on the shelves to sale.  When they are gone they will sale the 012 version.

Real Fix - IMO - Is to buy the updated version (012)...

Bottom LIne, there is NO fix for this one.. and ACER is just not going to say "Hey, we can't fix it, so, well replace it with a new model.. ". Let's face it, it's not going to happen   - So either you take it back get a refund or your stuck with the bad designed model.

Again this is "In My Opinion.. "  There software (BIOS) update did not work. It was only going to make less sensitive, but not really resolve the issue. Why, becasue you can't fix a Hardware issue with a software fix.   Botton line.. bad design. And ACER is not going to give us a replacement unit, because they would have to admit, it was a bad design.

May be time to contact the BBB.   But I send mine back, I'm waiting for version 012...

Acer has provided a hardware fix for those people still experiencing the problem after the BIOS update. Perhaps you missed the post explaining it?

Re: Button issues with Acer Aspire Switch

Cory, i understood your feedback and i sent you a private message. Bottom line: I dont want to send my Switch 10 to Service and receive it to check if it still have the problem. I want someone to check in advance and give me a contact of the Portugal Acer Service, so someone can garantee me that they at least know the problem and have an hardware fix for it. After that, yes, i will send it to service, not before! I already called the Acer Portugal Service line that gave me the feedback that i wrote before on this topic.

I just purchased an Acer switch for my wife and we are on our second device with the stuck capacitive start button. I thought it was just a fluke... but apparently it's not. My current serial number is[edited for privacy]

I really like thus device but when the start button is stuck it becomes annoying to use this device. You end up constantly activating the narrator and many random screen shoots.

Re: Button issues with Acer Aspire Switch

Go to PC settings from the charms menu, select ease of access, and then keyboard. You'll find a setting called "Filter Keys" where the option is OFF by default. Turning it ON will ignore brief repeated keystrokes AND disable the physical windows key.

hope this helps guys :smileyhappy:

Re: Button issues with Acer Aspire Switch

I am not using the capacitive window button that much that is why it is not that big deal for me. But I have already experience the said issue maybe 2x since I bought it last June.

Big issue that I hate is the disconnection of HDD. Surprisingly, The Sims 4 (lol) works smoothly with this device so I installed it in the HDD. Problem is whenever HDD disconnects, game force close as expected.

Updating the bios helps a little as it lessens the disconnection. Bottomline, problem still persists and wouldn't be able to bring it in the service center as it would be hard to tell when the disconnection occurs so we cannot show in with the tech person

But the issue does appear eventhough you're not using the Window button.

Re: Button issues with Acer Aspire Switch

Hello, I have just purchased an Acer Aspire Switch 10 from Amazon and am awating delivery. Is it known whether or not this fault is common across all of the Switch 10s or only certain ones?  I must admit I am being put off at the moment from all the bad press the tablet is getting from this issue.  A bit gutted to be honest as I was really looking forward to having one :smileysad:. Also how long does it take for the issue to show, ie how long should I give it? Any feedback would be welcome, especially over the next couple of days while I have a little play before considering whether or not to send back to Amazon for a refund!

Re: Button issues with Acer Aspire Switch

The problem showed up on mine on day 1 after a few hours use. It would go away after a reboot and then manifest itself again after a while. I sent mine back to Amazon for a refund. Shame, because I really liked the machine but I couldn't put up with fault and didn't want to risk sending it away for repair and then finding that it wasn't fixed.
