Please don't say the problem is solved, because it isn't. Just like girarcat has mentioned, check your speed from a distance.
All my speed test are really slow when I get about 40 feet away from the router. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an antenna or hardware related problem. I've checked two Notebooks from the same distance using the built in wifi, one is a Macbook Pro, and the other is a Sony Vaio. Both 2007 models. They both work at full speed, even at 100 feet away. The W700 is like dial up.

My problem is clearly not solved at all, but is it plausible that the other users' problems are solved with this driver update? My tablet cleary has a hardware issue that is not solved by any version of the drivers, but I wonder if others actually have this solved? Let's hear what more people have to say.
I'm going to RMA my W700-6607 today. I think I will buy a replacement and give this Acer tablet ONE more chance. It's just too nice a tablet otherwise to swear off for good. Wish me luck, although this time I am going to buy it locally for a trouble-free return if need be. May the force be with me ![]()

veragti wrote:Hi everyone,
Yesterday, I bought an Acer Iconia W700 tablet and for some reason, the wi-fi disconnets all the time. If I have the tablet really close to the wi-fi spot, it work fine but when I go to my living room, the internet disconnets or it get's limited. The farest thing I can do is open google and search for something. Then the internet crashes..
It's frustrating these situation... And I was wondering if I have to return it or if there is any thing I can do to fix it. I also saw other users online complaining about the same problem...
Thanks for the help!
At speedtest.net:
I have my router in the outside corner of an 1800 sq. ft. home ( and the speed 6 feet away is:
10.58 Mbs
In the walkin closet on the opposite corner of the house the speed with 2 bars of signal is:
1.64 Mbs
My 2010 HP dv7 at the opposite corner of the hosue (in the closet) shows a speed of:
2.02 Mbs - This is very close to the W700
The dv7 at 6 feet shows the following speed:
11.23 Mbs
I previously performed a speed test at distance outside (from my Dad's house, not mine which I posted the results above). You can see my results from that in the following:
3 feet away, max 5.38 Mbs
Aprox 150 feet away with houses in the way, max 307 Kbs
Again, I don't think my w700 suffers from signal loss at a distance. I was really far from my Dad's router and it still worked fine. It is working in my house apporximately 64 feet away.

My ONLY problem with my w700-6465 is BT audio does not stay synced with video files or streaming video (Hulu, Netflix).
Now that I have resolved the 'limited connectivity' WiFi issues, I still have this nagging BT audio syncing problem. I am sure this can be fixed with a driver update, but I only have 12 days left of my return window. I called Acer Support today to only hear the following: "Please do not worry sir, we are working on an updated driver to resolve your BT audio issue. It will be released soon."
The representative would not commit to a date for the 218 driver and he kept telling me not to worry. His only suggestion was to restart the computer and begin watching my video again with synced audio. What a joke for a $1000 tablet.
I am really becoming frustated with the amount of time I have wasted on this computer. I will continue to monitor these forums until I return my unit and I will post if anything changes on my end.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. May you find peace after returning your W700 for a full refund.

Has anyone upgraded their W700 to Windows 8 Pro? It is available for $39.95 for a short while. I followed the download link and it ran a compatibility program which reported a couple of issues. I think they were about Bluetooth but don't remember for sure.
Thanks to any who reply.

That is HILARIOUS.
I just tried the upgrade compatability install program. It says that the Atheros WiFi and Bluetooth Suite are NOT compatable with Windows 8 . It is telling that Acer did not go through MS for compatability certification. When you consider how long the W700 has already been on the market, this device driver issue comes into larger perspective.

I have uninstalled the WiFi & BT Suite (uninstall a program) and uninstalled USB and WiFi through Device Manager.
After restart, I updated the WiFi driver with the atheros.cz v221 driver and left the BT driver to the generic MS driver.
I am not experiencing any WiFi issues and the BT audio/video sync problem seems to be resolved.
Of course, I'll keep you posted with updates.

Hoping for the best for you Mike!
I returned mine yesterday, going to buy one locally and pray for the best! At least it will be easy to return if it isn't an improvement.
Whole other question, but have you guys seen that the version in Canada now comes with that cool keyboard case? Hope we can buy it in the States soon!

ya mike the uninstalling the BT suite fixed my BT problem too, however the .221 atheros driver seems to work alright (don't see a huge difference) and just surfing seems to work fine, my speed tests show bad results. However most of the time as long as pages load fast that's all I need it for but it would be great for it to work correctly.
