Re: Acer Iconia W700 Wi-Fi problem

[ Editado ]

hey guys, I tried installing several version of Atheros drivers (both bluetooth and wifi), and suddenly I found a service installed, named 'ZAtheros Bt and Wlan Coex Agent' which is, I believe, responsible for handling the wifi and bluetooth signal to be coexist so they dont interfere each other.

However, after I refresh my W700, I tried to install the driver again but I cant get the service to appear again (it happened only once, as I described above). The .exe file is located on "C:\Program Files (x86)\Qualcomm Atheros\Bluetooth Suite\Ath_CoexAgent.exe", so the file is there but doing nothing. It is present in the latest Acer driver, as well as the latest driver from station-drivers. Hope this helps, and how can we make the service to reappear again?

EDIT: I made a .reg file that basically put the 'ZAtheros Bt and Wlan Coex Agent' into services. Im not sure it will work or not, but it does appear running in the task manager, so it runs, at least. Im not sure though whether it is able to communicate with the bluetooth and wifi driver or not. Download it at my SkyDrive here https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=E5E8A7DE0FA794BC%2120642

DO NOT INSTALL if you already have 'ZAtheros Bt and Wlan Coex Agent' in your services.msc

I have a similar problem... In my case I don't get any indications of limited connection or connection drop, but I am unable to ping anything.  Internet is slow and browser is unable to connect every couple of minutes.  If I am 3 meters away from the router I am unable to connect.  My router is set up to G only and this helps a bit.

I have tried uninstalling and disabling Bluetooth but problem still exists. I don't believe it is interference.

I use win 8.1 (Upgraded) and have tried all drivers and suggestions.... I am giving up.

I have also installed Android on the the device for testing and it gives me the same problem.

Can I replace the Atheros AR5BMD222 module in the unit? When I Google it it looks like a stand alone module. Can I replace it with another brand?

For example: http://laptopbg.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=45_79&products_id=433

thanx for any help

Re: Acer Iconia W700 Wi-Fi problem

If your w700 is still under warranty then i should return it to acer for repair.

if not then the wireless module is removeable and easy to get to. you may find you have loose attenas cables inside which you can fix yourself. im not 100% sure that the module can be replaced but it can definately be removed and another of the same size put in it place.

might be quite an interesting experiment to try as i'd change mine if i could for one with inbuilt widi if it worked.

Re: Acer Iconia W700 Wi-Fi problem

I do believe it is a reception poblem. I have two routers in my house with two int providers. In Windows I can only connect to one of them and it does not ping anything unless I am next to it.  In Android I can also connect to the second one and it is steady 3 meters around. I guess it has a stronget signal.  I believe that the driver only cheats Windows that the reception is low so it does not drop it...

I will order the module from the link above. It is exatly the sam size and type, but diffeent brand.

I'll post results.  Might be an inexpencive fix..

If I were a betting man I'd bet you'll find that either the antenna connection are loose or the antenna is mounted somewhere where the signal is blocked... The new card will act like the old one unless you fix the antenna situation.

The reception signal in Windows (not only Acer) is hardly trustworthy, they always fluctuate even though I dont move the device. When I started typing this, the signal was 3, and now its full.

Fiiiiixed it

[ Editado ]

I finally took the unit a part (there is a video in youtube showing how to do it)...  and one of the connectors of the atheros module was not properly connected.  The connection looks like an albow joint and the top part was out of place. I am uploading a picture...

So, this is an Acer hardware(assembling) issue. The hole process took me about 40 minutes and the unit looks like before.

If you have tried replacing the drivers, don't waste your time anymore.  Ship it back or open it up.  What is the point to keep the warrenty if you are using a faulty unit.

I can say that I really liked the tablet and now I love it.

. .. ALSO check the black cable from the module. Mine was sqeezed with the screw verry hard between the motherboard and the screw nest (almost cut apart).

Re: Acer Iconia W700 Wi-Fi problem

Hi,

I have followed various settings from this thread including updating drivers etc, but with no luck, the only way i got my Acer not to drop connection was to enable 5ghz WIFI on my wireless router and only have my Acer connect to that SSID.  The rest of my home laptops and tablets still on 2.4ghz wifi SSID.  Hope this helps someone.

thanks
