Catastrophic loss. Didn't have Win8 to reinstall had to use Win7. Didn't work well. Help?

I have a Win8 laptop. Installed a free antivirus from AT&T which bricked my machine. I didn't have a backup copy -- yes, I know I should have -- but I own Win7 and used that. It's not working well. I thought I could just upgrade to Win10. It's not working well either. Anyone have a cheap Win8 I can buy? Or know how to fix the double image Win10 is giving me? I can't read anything on the screen well enough to use system restore. Additionally, it's not accessing the boot menu.

I appreciate your help.

Right before you use the Acer recovery media, you should load BIOS defaults and then save/exit, and use diskpart clean to wipe your HDD.

So it would be like this:

    1. Load BIOS defaults and save/exit

    2. Boot your Acer recovery media. Navigate in the menu to "command prompt".  Use "diskpart clean" to wipe your HDD

    3. Shutdown your computer

    4. Turn on your computer and use Acer recovery media

Backup your important files to a backup if possible

    Try these recovery options first:

    http://community.acer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Windows-8-Recovery-options/ta-p/60811

    If that doesn't work.......

Here's windows 8.1 media (and also recovery tools when you select "Repair your computer")

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Here's how to wipe your HDD or SSD clean so you can start over fresh:

And if all else fails, you can buy recovery media from Acer store

Edit: If you've messed with your bios settings, then you'll probably want to load the bios defaults

Will the recovery media work on this machine? The techs wiped the HDD clean then installed Win7. I didn't have a copy of Win8 to install and did not know at that the time that Acer embeds the product key. Is it still there even after this? If so, yes, I will just buy the recovery media. If you cannot guarantee that Win8 has left enough crumbs behind to reinstall then I think I'll just go to Best Buy in the morning. I can stand only so much ***** from corporations.

The recovery media should work fine to get your Windows 8 back. Once that is done you can do all the updates, upgrade to 8.1, do all the updates and then upgrade to 10. Smiley Happy

The key for Windows 8 is embedded in the BIOS, a Windows 7 install should not have changed that, since Win7 doesn't know about embedded keys.
