External Battery V5-122P

The User Guide points out this nice little port and threaded holes on the bottom V5-122P for attaching an "optional" external battery. This can also be seen mentioned on tech review sites or product listings at different retailers.

It fails to mention a part number or anything. It can't be found on Acer's website. In reply to an inquiry, Acer support says that if the computer doesn't ship with the "optional" external battery, it isn't available.

Huh?

Why put the port there? If Acer is only going to make it available to certain shipments? Why not use a different cover, that hides the port, on the bottom of the computer and not mention that it exists?

Has anyone found this battery or have any other information about it?

The part number for the optional battery is NP.BTP11.00G

Unfortunately, I do not have any information on availability.

Yes, I'd like info on getting this second battery as well. No luck so far. Any help would be great!

    Thanks

In speaking with Acer, I have found out that this battery is unavailable in the U.S. and there is no current plan to make it available.

It really begs the question as to why the port is on the computer(the laptop could have had a different bottom plate to cover it) and even more so why the User Guide points out that the port is there and speaks of an "optional" external battery. It does not appear to be optional at the consumers' wish, but instead at Acer's.

Thanks guys! This really seems like ** to me.

Oh well, either deal with it or return it, right?

Acer is a global company and ships the same or similar units in multiple countries.

Some units and accessories may not be available in a target country due to various factors.

    Folks

Would not the solution here be to find a country where the external battery is available and buy it from that country's Acer store?

Yes, that is a solution. I did not have any luck looking though a few of the English language sites. I didn't even see this laptop, unless it has a different model number elsewhere.

I'm not sure how economical it would be either. It would probably just be better to find a different laptop with longer battery life.

It's really disappointing that the external battery is not available in the U.S.  I bought my V5-122P because of its small size AND the supposed ability to tag on a second battery.  I can used the extra battery life for my international travels.

I googled for the part number NP.BTP11.00G and only found it on Russian language sites.  Has anyone found this battery pack?  Also the sites say it is for an Acer Aspire v5-132P, not a v5-122p, how sure are you of the part number?  I have better luck finding a close part number, like NP.BTP11.007 or 008, I can find that.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This is the part number that Acer gave me directly(earlier in the thread). I have still had no luck with finding this battery. Finding it on a Russian site would be the closest thing so far.

I would imagine that the battery could work in a couple of different models. I think the V5-132P is the same computer with an Intel processor.

The last time i contacted Acer they gave me the same response as before, this battery is not for sale in the United States.

I found it on a couple of Dutch language sites, they may be a bit easier to order from than a Russian site. I found them by googling the part number.

Well after taking mine on the road. I soon realized that battery life is not so great. I almost find it appalling because the APU from AMD uses so little power (or so they say). I am surprised that battery life  is not better. A external battery option would be a welcomed addition.

I agree - I use the battery bar tool to measure battery life, very precise. I am only getting a little over two hours usable time on the installed 3-cell Li-ION battery and really really want the external.

Acer needs to get on the ball and make these things available!

Has anyone used these USB-connected battery packs that are kind of generic to all laptops on their v5-122p?

An update - I filed an issue with support about the battery life. The first guy I talked to said that the wi-fi card is a battery hog, just turn off wi-fi - I told him that was ridiculous, what good is a laptop with no Internet? That's what most users are using it for!  So I had them escalate the issue - and the answer is that the battery life is just terrible with the installed battery, and the exterrnal pack which they so helpfully mention in the User Guide that comes with the laptop is not available in the U.S.  I have had them keep this issue open, and asked them to use their resources to find this external battery pack for the v5-122p.  Other companies (Dell, Toshiba) have had all accessories available for purchase.  I'd urge anyone else who wants this to contact Acer support also.

Utterly ridiculous the short life on the battery for this computer.  I am  used to my Toshiba netbook that had a much longer life of use.  I would like to know how this battery is supposed to attach.  It would not make sense that one would have to remove the back of the computer to replace it.  I saw a picture of one but do not understand how it would attach.  I would like to purchase the optional battery if it can be located.
