I just found out that there was a BIOS update available for my laptop but I am confused with the tag (Not for upgrades). What does this mean? I have also just updated to Windows 8.1 and I just saw the steps here to update to the newest BIOS version if available but I think I haven't done that yet. Can I still apply this BIOS update to my Win 8.1?

hi...
I suggest you not to upadte the BIOS for windows 8.1 since there is no information on BIOS upadte for windows 8.1 from Acer.
The tag (Not for upgrades) means that the BIOS update can be applied on computer shipped directly from factory with windows 8 opearting system.
It cannnot be applied on computer's upgarded from windows 7 to windows 8.

Thank you very much for answering.
That saved me a lot of trouble in case of a bad BIOS flash.

any reason why they can't just allow us to upgrade to that line of BIOS version? I mean our laptops can handle windows 8.1 given that we're using a 3rd gen i5 processor .. any info like incompatibilities or issues that may arise from using BIOS to UEFI?

i have the same opinion like you why the bios is locked for what reason we are custommer of acer

Interesting...
But what exactly does this Bios Update changes? Only UEFI stuff?
I'm not using Windows at all, so I wonder if I should or not update?
Thanks
