Alphapro wrote:Thanks Half_Colin! I have a new Aspire V5 preloaded with Windows 8. Everything was fine for 1st couple months until a couple weeks ago. Then one day I could not stay connected to the wifi. Lots of discussions about needing to load different drivers but many people replyed with the same disconnecting problem after loading the different drivers. So, I looked for what I hoped to be a simple fix and you posted it.
Steps were as you stated but I will ad what I saw on my scereen for my Aspire V5 Windows 8
Go to Control Panel, type Device Manager in upper right search box click on Device Manager, Find and click on Network Adapters from the list, Click on Qualcomm Atheros .... Right Click and select Properties, then select Power Management Tab, then uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", click OK.
Then it worked! I have not had problem with connecting to the wifi for several days now!
Hope this helps others.
Nope it doesn't.
I've been running 222 and with that power option turned off. My wifi keeps dying every once in a while. Didn't seem as bad on the 75 version but now it's happening more frequently? I also have the latest Windows Updates installed... possibly theres something in one of those update components that's really making it go down very often.
fyi I keep my laptop on 24/7

I hope none of them had tried BIOS update.BIOS version 2.13 is available on acer site.
Kindly check your BIOS version and update it.This is the first step before any software or hardware diagonosis.

For those that are having internet wi-fi issues. what about the acer supplied mouse? Once it is idle for a while it attempts to re-connect but never does. Just wondering if anyone else is having that issue.
em 02-21-2013 06:43 PM
Yes, I have the sleepy mouse problem! Indeed the mouse driver is something of a mystery: It is identified as a Microsoft product from about 2006 and the big Bluetooth driver from the combined-driver disaster of x.217 I am told (by the Admin Events Log) is always unloaded by reason of some sort of incompatibility. So I have the standalone LAN driver x.75 running my wifi adaptor (since it still manifests the fewest drops), and, rather than sometimes having to reboot the system to get the mouse back, I bought a Logitech T400. This takes up a USB port, but it is so dependable and elegantly integrated with Windows 8 that I don't mind a bit.
I have noticed how much less frequently anyone posts here, but my guess is that that is not because the issues have gone away, but rather because no one from Acer has produced a solution or even posted a progress report. Admittedly the heart of the problem is probably a three-way knot involving Acer, MS and Atheros, but someone from Acer might want to tell us that they are still working on it. (And the little mouse, too.) Well, there is a silver lining to this cloud, but that likely is the province of Asus and Samsung, so I shall say no more.

I managed to get a case made for the wifi issue (Case ID: [edited to comply with guidelines]).
v2.18 seems to be more stable. When testing while on support they got me to reset the BIOS (lol) so once back in I did the following test and advised acer support:
Ping 192.168.1.1 -> destination unreachable
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ping apex
pining apex.domain.cyborgtrading.com [192.168.1.11] with 32....
Request Timed Out
100% packet loss
current ip details
IPv4: 192.168.1.172 (also confirmed in our DHCP and DNS server)
default gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS servers: 192.168.1.11, 192.168.1.18
route print
IPv4 Routing table shows: Destination 0.0.0.0 Netmask 0.0.0.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1 Interface 192.168.1.172 Metric 20
I found this strange as it was getting an IP address from my DHCP server, even made a record in DNS. but it just would not route to anything. (yes ICMP is allowed through the firewall internally on our network)
After getting my hands on .218 the wifi seemed to have kicked in so far, but only tested it on one wifi and for less than 24 hours.
I find it painful to have had my company sped $1,700 on 3 of these for the CEO, VP of Finance and US Sales Director and it turned out to be garbage. Any anyone been able to find drivers that prevent or decreeses the amount of disconnects on the bluetooth mouse? Or is this just going to be a lost cause?

You're right
I still occasionally check here just for kicks knowing that there is currently no solution to the problem. I will be returning my Acer laptop in the next few days.

It's been 2.5 months since the first post under this thread. And it's now obvious that Acer can not find a solution. I started to think this issue is a hardware based one. So a callback is needed but as everything is soldered on motherboard, this would be a very expensive callback, so just forget about it. I am thinking of selling my laptop as my return window is closed. But I really feel bad for anyone who buys these. Well I bought mine for $1400 (6891), it's now $1000 on Amazon, with the wifi issue that I'm having, I would probably get somewhere around $600. Thank you Acer. Appreciated!

Good morning everyone. My name is Gerardo. I own an acer v5-531, and I had trouble disconnecting continuous wi-fi. I found the solution
![]()
The reason for the disconnect is that the wi-fi module is mounted wrong.
I now let me explain better.
****** I apologize for my English, I am Italian ******
The wi-fi module has two wires, a black wire and one white. The black lead is AUX (auxiliary) and the white cord is MAIN (main). Acer has made a mistake during installation to connect cables.
As you can see from the picture
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z9zz212yldp5jwx/IMG_1761
the black wire is installed on MAIN, the white wire instead of AUX ... but this is wrong.
THE CABLES MUST BE REVERSED!
So the black wire should be put in place of the white one that is on AUX the white wire should be put in place of the black and then the MAIN
Acer congratulations for your incompetence!!!!!
With affection
Gerardo

It would be interesting to see if the WIFI problem on the S7, as Gerardo25 explained, is because the internal cables of the WIFI are connected wrong.
