Hi everyone,
I'm using the 218 driver right now, i got it from windows update. I got a M5 and same wifi-card.
I am monitoring the line for 2 hours now and so far so good...
BUT
at the same time i suggest you to DISABLE ENERGY SAVING for your wifi card! both in the wifi properties and in the save energy settings.. that could be the trick
bye

The puzzling thing is that different people have different results. This means there isn't just an overall driver issue, but an interaction issue with certain routers.
For example, I had one drop-out in all 3 weeks of usage with the very first original driver. With the new driver I have had no drop-outs at all. Yet others still have problems and very frequently.
No wonder this has been hard for Acer to solve....its a problem with multiple parts it seems.

i think the problem is about the quaccomm wificard which is not that good, it is a matter maybe of Acer partnerships and market strategies.. sincerely i use acer for many years and this is the first time i have troubles..
i must rekon also that acer phone assistance is quite useless, they just tell you to update driver or send the pc to assistance.. i wanted to try anything before send it, and i was almost going to do it.. but then (and that's why i posted my previous msg) i entered those energy saving settings and voila' problem GONE.. at least (touching wood) for the past 2 days i've been monitoring the line with PINGPLOTTER, i am testing it in different environments (work, home etc) and it's stable..
so before you send yor pc to assistance or lose years of life struggling to solve the problem, check thos **bleep** settings!
Good luck!

@loop,
How did you get v218 driver? My attempt at using Windows Update still gives me v217 drivers.

Hey guys,
I've been doing some research and I think this is an issue with Windows 8 and not necessarily the drivers.
I have 3 laptops:
1. Acer Aspire V5
2. Thinkpad X1 Carbon
3. Asus UX31A Ultrabook
All 3 have the wifi limited connecitivty dropout problem. In my research apparently this has been happening also on the new Surface RT device as well (do a google and you will find it).
Obviously it's not just limited to the 3 laptops I listed.... as you guys probably know...like S7 and even V3.
Seems like V5 and S7 share the same Atheros wifi adapter. The Thinkpad and Asus have an Intel Centrino 6235 adapter. Two different manufacturers with the same issue. What in the world is going on??

I have returned my the S7 for Asus UX31A. I do not hava any problem with the wifi as you stated dracore.
I have also known someone from this forum that returned the S7 for the X1 carbon and is very happy now with his laptop. I think this is a problem with the Aspire S7 not windows 8.

Thats what I thought until I saw the dropouts happening on X1C and UX31A. It's weird... I don't think I saw it happening immediately. It took some time before the issue appeared. I know I did not get the problem for at least a few days while I first got my UX31A. Probably took a few weeks on the X1C.
I wonder if perhaps maybe a particular Windows Update might have installed/updated something in the system which would cause the problem to occur.
Now that i've seen it happen on multiple laptops AND I read about it happening on other people's laptops (even Toshiba and Dell), I'm believing it is more of a Windows 8 issue. That and the exact same problem plaguing the Windows RT Surface tablet.... there is something fishy going on.
Although I don't doubt that drivers can definitely have an effect on the wifi dropout. But I think that in addition, there's something else in Windows 8 that is also contributing to the problem. It's just unbelievable that so many vendors are having issues with drivers.
