Re: Aspire S7 - 391 Wifi problems

Sorry, but I thought you had previously suggested a hardware replacement and not just reverting to an older driver?

Re: Aspire S7 - 391 Wifi problems

Latest Drivers for S7 391: this pile of junks wi fi card is Atheros AR5BMD222. There is a Czech website you can download the latest drivers from. I just downloaded and installed File: win8-10.0.0.256-whql.zip well it works so far and its many versions up the ladder from the 10.0.0.234 on the acer web site...will post in a few days to tell if it resolved drop outs. If you google Atheros 'AR5BMD222 driver' the first thing on the list is the Czech website and cruise down the list to win 8 / 64. I also received a reply from ACER. What they say to do I am sure is a huge waste of time. Refresh PC usng that utility, so you will then screw up all the setting you put in so windows 8 behaves like windows 7 or XP and many other personalization . OR reformat! or send it back and we will reformat...ARRGGH. BTW anyone who still thinks this is a great laptop! Shift key you need to stand on and keyboard is rubbish; I have had to learn to type again other wise half the letters are missing, keys double bounce unless you download a small file to stop that, mouse goes to sleep and never wakes up, back light on means you cant read keys! wif fi disconects every when it feels so...on the up side its light pretty and has a nice screen. I don't think anyone at ACER tried it to see if it worked they just released it on us poor suckers.

Re: Aspire S7 - 391 Wifi problems

Let me think.........

All the spam comes from Eastern Europe.

All the money scams, viruses, Trojan horses, etc.  come from Eastern Europe.

This Czech website to which you refer is in Eastern Europe.

Acer, I believe, is not headquartered in Eastern Europe or the Czech Republic.

Why would anyone in their right mind download anything from this Czech website???????

[ Editado ]

This is actually where they host their drivers

Ages ago I posted how to resolve this issue both in this thread and in others.

Thanks to the guy who posted the atheros cz link think by the way. Its actually  aletr driver than the one I had installed which in turn is  asignificantly later one than one the acer site

Look for later drivers/ don't look for later drivers like I said a bit back my laptop works fine

Re: Aspire S7 - 391 Wifi problems

Scroggs your fine mate its just some of the responses make you think why bother

This is very simplified:

For starters I know they are not called wireless transmitter cards I know they are chipsets but to try to explain it simply:

To make it nice and clear ATHEROS make wireless cards they are in a LOT of laptops

Atheros cards have some issues with lets call them TRANSMITTER CARDS inside wireless routers in particular broadcom based TRANSMITTER CARDS

These TRANSMITTER CARDS are in a lot of different wireless routers ranging from Netgear TP LINK in fact nearly all manafacturers. The wireless router manafacturers actyally use several vendors TRANSMITTER CARDS Netgear for example use broadcom chipsets as well as Railink as well as others I cant remember

The Atheros card inside your laptop inside an acer laptop asus laptop, lenovo laptop all has the same problem

It seems to be based around the inability to lock and hold  a signal on the 2.4GHZ band - te most widely used band and it seems to be affecting in particular channels 1 and 6 (which are 2 of the most popular default wireless channels in routers)

It doesnt afect everybody as it all depends what is around you wireless connecivity wise, the thickness of your walls wether made of stone etc etc LOTS of things affect wireless capability

Atheros chipsets on the wireless cards have known issues. Atheros have updated several times the drivers

ACER and other manafacturers have not necessarily UPDATED their own sites driver files

However Atheros have done so on theirs

AS another pointer 2 people with 2 identical laptops lets call them Bill and ben go to their friend Looby Loos house and log onto Loobys wireless

Bill gets great coverage ben does not - why ??

Because the 2 laptops are NOT identical they may have been made in different factories or in the same factory at different times.

The difference is that the wireless card insid the laptop is different.

If you doubt that look on a manafacturers support site and see that sometimes they list 2 or even 3 wireless cards with a guide how to tell which is yours

Best thing anyone having issues can do is to run a programme that analyses wireless networks in your area I wont dare name one called InSSider in case I get accused of directing you to money laundering gangsters but if you do you will see what wireless signals are being transmitted and on what channels. If you select a different channel on your router that is  a good starting poiint

Re: Aspire S7 - 391 Wifi problems

Dave,

Just in case you aren't aware, ACER now have 263 available on the web site under the Windows 8.1 selection.

Hope I got the number correct - it's been another long day in the world of IT design.

The double bounce keybourd thing is called 'Vaio series double type keybourd fix-v.0.1' Sorry cant remember how i found it but once installed it launches every time you start the PC. Have not hadddd one sinceeee! There is still the; you have to bang the **bleep** out of the keys or you have missed letters problem..BTW the atheros wi fi driver I downloaded from the Cz website has improved matters significantly (I did wonder as well if I was going to end up with some malware instead of a driver but no problems), have only had one wirless drop since and then rather than taking about a minute to reconnect it was a matter of seconds. Have not tried our resident Dave 7 experts advice and changed channels on the router but I am sure that helps as well. The only problem I have now is the sleeping mouse! Wow that Apple airbook (apart from the OS) is sure looking good and I am pretty sure they try them first to see if they work before selling them. I had always used Toshiba laptops since 1994 of those I can't hink of one problem I had they just worked (that hink is suppose to be think but I did not ban the key hard enough, oh the ban is suppose to be bang)....and on it goes life with ACER..
