Ok. So I uninstalled the drivers through Programs and Settings. I downloaded the updated drivers from Acer's website. I uninstalled the drivers, reset the laptop and reinstalled the new drivers. Then I went into power setting and changed the wifi to maximum performance under advanced settings and wireless adapter settings. It will be set to low power setting by default. Change the setting in battery and plugged in. I haven't had a drop yet in a few hours. Within 20 minutes of using my laptop last time I would have the internet drop off to limited connectivity. That should solve your problem.

That's good to hear Drockhazen. I hope some others can validate these additional steps of uninstalling through Programs and Settings while tweaking the power settings.
I've provided additional informaiton to our teams here to review, I'll provide any updates I can as they become avaialable. I've taken an S7 and reloaded it multiple times, installed the .217 drivers and cannot get it to drop connection on any of the 3 different networks I've tried. I'm hoping that these additional steps you've taken are the difference for most.
I also want to say thank you to everyone in this thread and on the forums that are actively trying to get a solution and solve a problem. We see the threads where people are frustrated that Acer hasn't given them an answer or addressed a specific issue, but we are watching. This community is a new endeavour for Acer, and we're growing and learning from it much faster than I anticipated. We appreciate the constructive feedback and criticism.

A question about the power settings solution: I have had this drop out with the system charging and therefore already at maximum wi-fi power. Moreover, if I run the adaptor diagnostic via Windows, about half the time it finds something to fix--and says it's fixed it!--and half the time it says it's good to go. (Again, both with or without the power connected.) I have made the change to the power settings--that couldn't hurt--but the flip-flopping diagnostics results are still a huge mystery. (Unfortunately I cannot read the diagnostic log.)
I have, as many of you have, corresponded with Acer directly on this. The tech was very polite, but clearly had nothing to offer but reload (driver and/or OS) or send it in for repair. I don't see how they can ignore the importance of this to a group that has just way overspent on an otherwise beautiful device. I even offered to send the diagnostic log, but my only response to that was a set of instructions on how to arrange a repair, and that the shipping would be at my expense.
Let me now at least take solace in joining the group lamentation.

So it seems I am not alone. I am having the disconnect issue one time each two or three days with the factory default driver. I have already tried to update the driver but it got worse so I rolled back. I am really disappointed as the machine itself is considered to be high end...

Mine is in for repair - will see what I get back..
Sadly - by the time I get mine back I will have little recourse to send it back for refund..
Stuck with a dog until/if this driver issue gets fixed..
Good luck y'all !

I uninstalled the wifi driver and installed the "new" one again (although it was the same one already installed) and after one hour it disconnected again. And I'm 2 meters from the wifi router! This is outrageous. My 400€ smartphone has better wifi connection than this!
If this isn't resolved with a patch by the weeked I'm sending this back. Love the design but no stable wifi kills it for me. Sorry. And Acer, with all your resources you can't fix this quickly? It's your flagship device and this will hurt you big time as far as brand recognition goes.

I have the M5-581PT from Best Buy. I wonder if the aluminum casing is blocking the signal?!?!
em 12-21-2012 02:32 AM
So much for that. Still dropping signal. Doesn't happen as often. Really drops when I'm on youtube or streaming music. Acer you need to fix this asap or send me a different wifi adapter. I'll install it myself. Off to Best Buy next week to return it ...... I was really starting to dig this laptop. I had the dell ultrabook and hated it. I guess Acer really is the walmart brand of computers.

I can confirm this, and I think it gets worse once you update to the .217... I have tried uninstalling the old driver and installing the new one after a restart; updating the old one without uninstallation... The common problem is that it loses the internet connectivity, you can clearly see the warning sign on the signal icon and it usually gets fixed quicky by just waiting some seconds, but today it totally lost the connectivity to the WIFI network and it was unable to reconnect again, even after a restart. I was looking for some information in the system events but it has a generic description that says that it couldn't connect to the network. I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem more than a software problem.
