Ultra-Thin

I reciently took Windows 8 off of this laptop due to high disk usage constantly and I reverted back to Windows 7 (which goes really well with my Windows 7 for Power Users class in college) anyway, I've got everything working perfectly besides one thing!  My Function key and the directional pad will not adjust volume or brightness/dimness.  Whenever I go to the battery icon Brightness isn't there neither.  Any ideas?

It would be nice if you posted how you "got it".  Is there a different button that you hit instead of what you thought or what?

I have the v5 with Windows 8.1 and all of a sudden I am unable to adjust the brightness--or I should say the brightness does not respond to the commands.
