Acer Aspire S3 371 can't boot from SSD or USB

I have an Acer S3 371 and I've just upgraded it to an SSD. It can see the SSD in BIOS, however it won't boot from USB.

I tried both legacy and uefi modes.

I've connected the SSD to my computer and installed Windows 8.1 on it there, and again the laptop won't see it as bootable.

What do I need to do?

Did you change the boot order in the BIOS to tell it to boot from the USB drive? If all else fails, you can try updating your BIOS.
