So I purchased this laptop 4 months ago, and now it seems the battery is dead. Yesterday I noticed that the charging battery light indicator was still on far after the battery should have been fully charged, and when I moused over the battery icon on the bottom right-hand side, the message said:

"Plugged in, not charging"

When I unplug the AC adapter, the computer shuts off and will not boot off battery power alone. All this points to the battery being the issue.

Before I send it in to Acer and hand my laptop off for 2 weeks, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do myself. I've read that sometimes a BIOS update/BIOS flash has worked for people, but I want to hear if I should do that for my particular model so I don't brick it by accident.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get my battery working again?

Hi mialicia,

I show that we have a couple BIOS updates available for this unit. While they don't specifically address battery issues, I think it would be a good decision to update to the latest BIOS and ensure that it isn't an easy fix before sending the unit in for service. Worst case, it has to come in for the battery and the BIOS to be addressed at the same time.

Also, my understanding is that this feature has been removed, but it may not have been on this model... Ensure that all of the screws on the bottom of the unit are snug, a security feature prevents the battery from discharging when the unit is being disassembled and the screws provide that 'trigger'.
