Hi,

there's a bios update (1.06) on https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7137?b=1&pn=NX.VEWEG.002

My laptop got 1.03.

- Is there a list of changes?

- I tried various ways to upgrade to the new version, without any success.

I've read that I can copy the P4.fd file to a USB pen drive and press fn-esc while powering up the laptop. Well, it only power up half and after a while power down again, without doing the update.

What's the correct procedure? (Btw, don't have windows available).

I talked to support, they suggested I download windows evaluation or live cd.

Did that, update not working. Update file is put on EFI partition and BIOS somehow notified about it.

On reboot, BIOS just hangs in "ACER" screen.

I then managed to load the file (P4.fd) through PXE (UEFI enabled, secure boot disabled) and it starts but aborts with this.

Support suggests I send my laptop in for repair Smiley Sad

    Anyone any other idea?

Or can anyone confirm that the PXE method I found works in principal?

Small update to above. I assume my PXE method cannot work. The BIOS is probably locked when any user-provided code is booted.

And another user seems to have the same problem: http://community.acer.com/t5/Travelmate-and-Extensa/TravelMate-P449-G2-MG-Can-not-install-Linux/m-p/517513#M1923

I have the same problem with an P449-G2-M. BIOS is at 1.03, downloadable is 1.06. W10 current version is installed. when I start the bios updater is just restarts the computer and then the acer logo is shown but the laptop does not boot into any update routine or into windows.
