Ok so lets get started. Like I said I woke up about two days ago to find " Your copy of windows 7 might not be geniune, please enter a key or buy a new copy" So I looked around and I could not find the box the PC came in. so I started to panic a bit. I looked for help some said just read your case should have the key on it. well if it did I don't have the case anymore. I got rid of it because I needed to buy a new one for my GPU,Cpu and power supply. if that was not the worst

the store I bought the PC from " Best buy" closed down and no longer sell the machine I bought. Even then I don't really have the money to but a new OS.

    Mrfirestorm,

Could you please provide the unit you are referring to for referencing please? Smiley Happy

You said you "needed to buy a new one for my GPU,Cpu and power supply", I'm not sure what that means. If you replaced some parts in the system, when was that? We have an article titled Why does Windows 8 prompt for activation after updating the BIOS and making a hardware change?, but the same applies to Windows 7 and the process to resolve it is the same.

    Mrfirestorm,

So you upgraded some hardware components in the unit. The process in that article is the same for Windows 8 as it is Windows 7. Go ahead and run through the steps and see if that will get you up and running.

Try these steps, they should work as I've tested it on a system we have here just to make sure.

    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Right click on Computer.
    3. Click Properties.
    4. Select Activate Windows.
    5. Click Show me other ways to activate.
    6. Click Use the automated phone system.
    7. Click the location nearest you from the drop-down list.
    8. Click Next.
    9. Call the phone number listed under step one.
    10. Enter the nine groups of numbers shown.
    11. Answer any additional questions and write down the confirmation ID that the phone system gives you.
    12. Enter the eight sets of numbers provided.

    Mrfirestorm,

I definitely wouldn't rely on copy and pasting honestly.

Have you done all of the windows updates yet?

I installed a new CPU on a friends computer last week and I got a message that said Windows 7 May not be genuine. I didn't have the product key with me because it was at his house. Eventually I got a message on the screen asking me to validate Windows so I just hit "ok". It validated itself as Genuine after a short wait. So not sure why you're having so much trouble.
    I'm not an Acer employee.

    JordanB,

Thanks for validtating the processes still work.

    Mrfirestorm,

My instructions didn't say anything about copying and pasting inthe keys, manually typing them all in is the correct method. Are you saying that you don't get options 5 and 6?

    Mrfirestorm,

As I stated, I tried it on a unit we have here and all those steps worked, there has to be something else going on if the option to show me other ways to activate isn't present. That's something that Microsoft itself has incorporated into the operating system. You can try that other link I offered and see if that works: Why does Windows 8 prompt for activation after updating the BIOS and making a hardware change?
