hi

im trying to go 64gb ram upgrade. i seem to have problem finding the other 2 memory slot.

i attempted to add 32gb on 2 slot accessible but wont boot. however able to add just one 16gb stick  total (32gb)

memory are same speed but different latency from origial 8 stick.

any information/guide on how to access the other 2 slot with 2 8gb installed?

how difficault is it?  not sure why acer make  ram upgrade so difficult

also its not possible to install 32gb in addition to already installed 16gb?

thanks

  • Hello,

    1. The other slots are located on the hidden side of the motherboard:

    2. It's possible to install 8+8+16+16.

i cant get  8+8+16+16. to work

i can only install  8+8+16. This is with Kingston Technology HyperX  HX424S14IBK2/32 . is there any reason why this wouldnt work? 48gb might be okay.  when i add additional 16gp it wont boot up at all

is it possible i might have dead memory slot?

after a lot of testing. i found out the first upper slot is not working.  i cant boot up whenever i put ram on the first slot

  • Each slot supports up to 16Gb. The memory module of 32Gb won't work. If you want an amount of 64Gb, the only solution is 16+16+16+16.

For the upgrade, there is apparently an order in the slots:

    8+8+16+!__! ==>works

    8+8+!__!+16 ==> doesn't work

    !__! means empty

According to Kingston's website, they don't have any compatible memory for your computer model.  If you think your HyperX memory is supposed to be compatible, you can call or email Kingston.

    https://www.kingston.com/us/memory

Maybe you could check out compatible memory from Crucial.

    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/predator-g9-793

Some people use the Crucial system scanner too.

    http://www.crucial.com/

And you can always use a program like speccy or HWinfo or cpuz to try to match them up.

    https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

    https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

There's really only 3 major memory manufacturers.  Micron (Crucial), Samsung, and  Hynix.

Crucial is the retail arm of Micron.

I'm not bashing KIngston because I use it myself, but again, their website doesn't list any compatible memory for your computer model.

the memory has same specs exept latency which is lower. if  it   compatible issue, why is 16gb working with 32gb and not 48gb?

if truely 8+8+16+16 is supported.  so is it bad memory slot or compatible issue?

    working

    8+8+16

    not working

    8+8+16+16

    8+8+{ }+16

i still 4 days replacement/return. its a new laptop. i need to figure out  soon what's the issue.

if i can get 48gb  working.... should be enough for me now.

    thanks

I doubt if it's a bad ram slot.

Go to kingston's website and check out the specs for your hyperX.   It will list the plug n play JEDEC profiles.

Personally I would try to stay with same exact timings as what came pre-installed.

Also,  sometimes Kingston uses different ram for the same product.  One stick might Hynix and the other might be Micron.  It'll be kingstons spd chip.  Sometimes a BIOS can fussy with compatibility.

It it could be that one of the ram sticks is bad too.  Hard to say.  Sometimes when you mix ram, there's problems for whatever reason.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS too.

    Give Kingston a call.

    thanks

    hey guys

i truely believe the laptop is only capable of max 32gb ram after a lot of testing.

I think  64gb RAM is marketing *****.. i just found out in a hard way.

    just my cent

Wow Densma that's interesting! And what about G-Sync, does your version have it integrated in its monitor or do you have to connect it to another one to have it enabled? So many contradictory information about G-Sync out there! Thanks

i dont use this or use the laptop for gaming..  not sure how to test it for you.

i see g-sync in nvidia control panel enabled.. window 10 did prompt that g-sync is supported

i was able to get HyperX 32gb working plus 1 8gb which is 40gb. i ended up leaving it 32gb

i believe the system can do 64. i dont have 4 16gb to test. i will stick to 32 unless i have a need for more which i doubt. This RAM is super fast!!!!!

certain combination will not work. i had to play around 4 slot. This maybe different timming situation too.

    Hey,

I am trying to upgrade my Acer Predator 17 as well. I want to know if you had to remove the heatsinks in order to get to the other ram slots located between keyboard and the motherboard.

I have an acer predator G9-793-78CM with stock 16GB (8 + 8) KIngston DDR4-2400 of unknown speed (Speccy does not know its specs.)   I bought a set of HyperX Impact 16GB (2 x 8G) DDR4 2400, HX424S14IBK2/16.  Once installed, I got a blank screen upon boot.  Can't even get to BIOS.  No POST.

Can anybody chime in which brand and model # of ram work on your laptop to get it to 32gb?

    Hi GimpsUnlimited,

    1. Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

    2. IIUC, you want 4x8Gb=32Gb. That's correct?

NHQ17AA001.  And yes, 4x 8gb stick is what I want.

BTW, I had the model # incorrectly.  Amended.

    GimpsUnlimited,

I have a little doubt about the frequency of the original module: 2133 (PC4-17000) or 2400MHz (PC4-19200)?

Could you check it on the label of the memory module?

According to the processor specifications, they work at 2133MHz.

Could you check it with CPU-Z zipped version (no installation)?

I found compatible modules but I'd like to be sure.
