I was planning to upgrade my GPU to a 1070 but before i ordered it i opened my PC to both clean it and see what i'll be working with. Then i noticed a black thing over the current GPU. (Images of it: https://imgur.com/a/9ckeU

I can lift it up a little but not by much.

1. Does anyone recognize what it is and is it important to the PC?

2. How do i remove it to fit a 1070?

I'm not a technical genious so please try to simplify as much as possible.

Thanks Smiley Happy

it's the VGA plastic holder, you need to lift it, pull it toward the bottom of your case.

about fitting a 1070, please double check the size of the newer GPU (you don't need the VGA plastic holder), to be sure to have enough room on your case.
