unable to create recovery disks from emanagement

Hello, I have an acer aspire one d255 that I want to reset to factory default. I've never done an install from a recovery particion before so thought I'd better create some back up disks just in case.

I found the directions for  creating the disks, but everytime I select "create factory default disk' I get the following message.

"

Hard drive configuration is not set to factory default. Backup aborted.

The only hardware change made I did via mmc disk management, I shrank the c drive and made a data storage particion.

Is this causing me to not be able to make the disks?

most importantly, am I likely to encounter a problem doing the reset from the recovery drive if it can't create disks?

Re: unable to create recovery disks from emanagement

correction, I used third party software called minitool partition wizard to do the drive partitioning, not the mmc snap in.

Perform the recovery via the D2D method (via the partition), then create the recovery discs.

Open "run" or a DOS box ("cmd") and enter "diskmgmt.msc" & all of your disks and partitions will be shown. What is shown for Disk 0 ?

Re: unable to create recovery disks from emanagement

If you don't have any data in your new created partition yet, just expand the harddrive partition back to original state and create recovery disks from emanagement.

Hope it will help, good luck

Why don't try to create partition with third part tools?

Re: unable to create recovery disks from emanagement

it looks like you also made a couple of mistakes when you used mini tool partition wizard, you ended up with over 9GB of empty space on each side of your c: partition when you shrank it, however this can be easily fixed. I used this program to build my new disk when i upgraded to a larger one, combined with Macrium Reflect to image the original for the move.

first of all if you havn't made a bootable CD, I advise doing so and running from the disk with windows off-line (it will work from within windows but especially when playing with the system partition it is safer that way).

run the program by booting from the disk, select the C: drive, move/resize, then push the down arrow on the 'unallocated space before' box til it reaches 0, if you want to include part of this 19GB in C: use the up arrow in the 'partition size' box, click 'accept' then the 'apply' button at the top left. when the operation completes do the same with the E: partition decreasing the 'unallocated space before' to 0 and increasing the 'partition size' until the 'unallocated space after' reaches 0 then 'accept' and 'apply'.  afterwards you might also want to select 'rebuild MBR' and 'apply' this operation, this will help ensure that the system can find the new starting point of the partition.

you can now remove the disk and exit the program to reboot to the OS.
