New M5-583P i5-4200U 6GB ram (recognized by system), 500g drive. Just updated to 8.1 with the update. Got the error with just Chrome running. Task Manager right now shows 39% memory being used. Virtual Memory total paging file size indicated 18432 MB

That is odd. It seems like you should have plenty of memory for 8.1. Have you tried completely shutting down the system and restarting to clear any previously cached information? Have you downloaded any programs that may be running in the background that could be causing issues? Have you checked for spyware or viruses?

Happens too on a Aspire V7-something laptop from a friend. Its a Intel-Nvidia-Optimus model with Mainmemory sharing and the behaviour showed only in Windows 8.1, not before.
