Are you able to try a manual drivers install?
http://download2.dvd-driver.cz/atheros/drivers/ar5

1, Click
and type Device then click Device Manager
2, Check for any driver that may be labelled as Unidentified or Unknown with a
3, Right-click the device and select Update Driver Software and select Browse Computer for Driver Software
Now you can navigate to the folder that you extracted the files to, which should contain a .INF file (netathrx.inf for your x64 OS) and select your network adapter from the list (Atheros AR5B125)

Just a thought.... try this!
turn system off, turn unit over and open the back. I have an Aspire 5100 notebook. I have the possibility of haveing two different Network Boards installed. One is in area with Ram, the other is under a separate door beside it.
If you look in all areas on back of unit... and Cannot find... Maybe never installed is a possibility. The aspire did not have... or it did and a repairman removed back in Ohio... You should see a black and white wire lead (1 black the other white) going to 2 pin connections on board... this is your antenna!
Just so you know what to look for there are two designs:
One is secured with 2 screws, it is about 1" wide and maybe 3" long the buss strip is on the opposit end (1") of lock down screws there should be a lable on either side giving you Name of Manufacturer and part number
the other style is held in place with spring clips on the sides, same as memory cards. Size is about 3"x4", It will be about rectangular also but its buss strip is on 4" side. The clips are on the 3" sides it also has Lable to ID it, could be on either side.
Hope this helps more..ok?
Also remember your driver download page should tell you what "SHOULD" be in your system. Could have wrong one?
Examples:
Broadcomm
Intel
Atheros
These are all older Companies that still are used. They are available in Both size Cards. Becarefull of Part number as a Atheros: AR5BXB63 IS NOT THE SAME AS AR5BMB5.
What ever ID Card Acer says to use, is exactly what should be used! with matching antenna for your product!
Good luck! If you need more help ask, ok?
