Gliders here.

Okay. Couple of things.
1. I've hardwire-connected the Acer to our network. The Local Area Connection status says IPv4 Connectivity = Interest and IPv6 connectivity = No Internet Access. Diagnostics say that the device is operating normally. However, when I launch IE, it tries to connect and then seems to hang. Only way I can shut it down is using Task Manager. Any suggestions on what I need to do here?
2. I have downloaded all the 'latest' drivers and apps available from Acer Support into a file on my own PC. These all look like zip files. Do I have to unzip them before burning them onto a disk that the Acer will (hopefully) read, or can it handle the zip files directly?
Thanks......

1. What kind of router? Who set it up? Can you ping the router's address OK from the command prompt?
2. Defer to Acer-cory.

Jack, the router is an ActionTec supplied by Verizon. How do I "ping it from the c-prompt"?

BTW, gliders I have not done! Just single engine land.......

PilotDave,
It has been suggested that you close the McAfee first. The sys prep is the last tool and should auto restart. If it hangs, have restart it as well. Hopefully this should resolve it, but let us know if it doesn't.
As far as the #2 zip question, You can transfer the zip files. Windows provides native support of .zip files and will be able to work with them.

Acer, thanks for the update.
Before I do this I have a couple of questions:
1. I checked devices using Computer Management. It's showing an error on the Network Controller - no driver installed. Update Driver says "Windows was unable to install your Network Controller". Can you tell me how to fix this? I'm guessing that one of the driver files from Acer Support is needed, but I don't know which one.
2. IE will run properly if I disable Add-ons. Are there some add-ons I should disable using Manage Add-ons?
3. I don't understand what you meant in your last post about the Sysprep Tool. Can you please try the explanation again?
Thanks very much!

Here are the answers I have.
1. I'm not sure about the network controller, it should be loaded with the image. There are 3 drivers available on our website and I don't have a trick to tell you specifically which network card you have installed. I'm bit suprised that Windows didn't pick it up automatically.
2. As a general rule of thumb, I understand people don't want add-on's or bloatware, but there is nothing in IE that should prevent you from using it out of the box. I also personally would recommend using Chrome or even Firefox instead for a better experience.
3. So from your statement that pushing Alt+Home you saw a McAfee error and something with system prep tool error. I was stating to close the McAfee to ensure it wasn't the cause of the system hanging, and see if it progressed. It could reboot automatically after a few minutes. If it does not progress after say 5 mintues. I would suggest selecting the reboot option of that error message and report back what happens after the system gets back into Windows.

Dave>>>How do I "ping it from the c-prompt>>>
OK. Do you know your router's gateway address. Should be something like 192.168.123.1 for a home or office network. That's the number to ping from the C prompt. If you don't know the address, go to the c prompt and enter "ipconfig". Scroll thru the list that comes up for the Ethernet adapter. Look for its Default Gateway address. If the Default Gateway isn't listed, you're probably not connected. If it is, ping (as in ping 192.168.123.1) that address and check to make sure there are no lost ping packets.
You probably have an Atheros ethernet adapter. So you need the driver for that adapter.

Hi Acer Corey!
I need to clarify what happened after I pressed Alt-Home:
1. There was a warning message from McAfee which I have closed. The reinstall did not restart after I did so.
2. The Sysprep dialog box wasn't reporting an error, however, it was offering choices one can make for "System Cleanup Action" (Out-of-Box Experience or System Audit Mode) and "Shutdown Options" (quit, Reboot, and Shutdown). There's also a check box I can select under System Cleanup Action that's labeled "Generalize". Once the choices are made, I can click OK or Cancel. I have not done either yet - the dialog box is still available. The pre-selected choices are OOBE, Reboot, and the Generalize checkbox unchecked. Should I try these (ie, click OK)?
Regarding the Network Controller.....there's no indication as to who made it....Device Manager shows a blank. When Windows goes searching for a driver (including on the internet), it can't find one. I wonder if I can force it via Browse to the Acer website.
EDIT - does "Network Controller" mean the same thing as "Fast Ethernet Controller"? If so, this computer is using the Atheros Controller. That said, it's indicating that it's working properly.
Regarding IE not working properly, woudl it make sense to disable ALL of the add-ons, then turn them on one at a time to see if there's one that's the issue?
Thanks againg for all your research and suggestions.
Dave

Jack - I can get to the internet now using IE with add-ons disabled. If I try to open any website using IE with add-ons enable, IE says it's connecting but doesn't. I also was able to do the ping test.
