Grub rescue ? Not heard or seen that one before. The 3 MB's that have failed (out of the tens of thousands I have flashed) just literally refuse to display anything - The fact you get a display means there must be some hope !
Make sure you have no bootable devices in the machine, are you sure you don't have a disc in the DVD and the machine is booting to this ? Did your HDD have a variety of operating systems on it and you were using grub loader ?
The first attempt to fix the unit would be to make a dos bootable USB stick and put the DOS Bios update on that and load it. Don't forget to take your HDD out of the unit so it should automatically boot to the USB stick so you can try a Bios update.
