I'm assuming you Ctrl Alt Del to task manager. Do you recall installing any programs or utilities prior to this black screen episode? Also, have you tried booting to safe mode? Does the run windows come up OK when you press the WinKey + the RKey?

OK. Let's try a simple test first. When you're logged in to the black screen, press the Fn+F5 keys at the same time to see if you can toggle the screen on. If nothing happens, then press the Fn+F6 keys at the same time to see if that makes a difference. If the Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 toggle key combos do nothing, then try to boot the system into save mode. To do this, shut the machine down and re-boot. At the Acer logo screen, keep tapping the F8 key until a list of boot options appear. Then use your down arrow key to highlight the safe mode option. Press enter. Report back with results.

Sorry again Diane. The original poster's subject matter relates to the Aspire 5542 notebook. Have you tried posting your problem on the Acer tablet forum yet? http://community.acer.com/t5/Tablets/ct-p/tablets .
Thanks
