I have an Acer M5-583P which I've updated to Windows 8.1 update 1. I used Windows System Image to create a backup to an external drive. The backup settings indicated that 3 drives would be backed up (screenshot http://imgur.com/Y33Umt6 ). Computer management indicates my Acer hard drive has 5 partitions (screenshot http://imgur.com/Z0iH04c ). My question is, will restoring the image created by Windows System Image backup restore the laptop to the exact state as when the backup image was created (all 5 partitions, OS, drivers, data)? If not, which method / software should I be using that is compatible with cloning in 8.1 update 1?

I would think it would restore all partitions on the drive, but I have not tried what you are suggesting. If that doesn't work for you, there are lots of third party programs that will do this. You may want to look into something like Norton Ghost.
