What do the last 4 digits in Acer Aspire One model number signify

For instance, I have D255-2256.  What does the 2256 mean?  My machine is dead, and I'm trying to determine if I can salvage its drive, memory, and display and use in another D255 netbook.

The D255 is the model number, and the 2256 is to identify the basic configuration that your Aspire installed with. This number will give you information on amount of memory, size of HDD, processor speed, etc.

  • Hello dpskala,

AOD255-2256: The last 4 numbers correspond to the version of the model (hardware configuration and software).

    For example, this model:

    - Windows 7 Starter

    - Intel Atom N450

    - Memory 1Gb DDR2 667MHz

    - HDD 160Gb SATA2

    - etc

    For AOD255 serie:

    - Memory: 1 or 2 Gb - 667, 800 or 1333MHz

    - HDD: 160, 250, 320 or 500Gb SATA2

    - LCD panel 10.1": It's common to all model.

You can reuse certain parts but it depends on the other AOD255 model.

Is AOD255 the same as D255?  And I was hoping to be able to salvage my current 160GB hard drive - maybe just exchange it to avoid installing a bunch of software all over again.  Is SATA2 common among all the D255's?

  • 1- AOD255 means Aspire One D255

2- SATA2 is common at all models

One last question - if I wanted to, could I use my current slower DDR2 2GB memory in the D255E (instead of the DDR3), and if so, would I notice any degredation in performance?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hello,

The motherboard of your AOD255E is only compatible with DDR3 and not DDR2.
