Re: TouchPad gestures not working [Aspire V5]

Hey Cory,

So I don't have that Acer laptop with me anymore. I really needed that answer because it was for my uncle who lives in a third world country. However, the issue was resolved, seeing that it was supposed to be Synaptics drivers rather than Elantech. I can try and hunt down the serial number, but the model number of the laptop was

Re: TouchPad gestures not working [Aspire V5]

VitaliyB,

Thanks for the info, this mainly what I'm after. Out of curiousity did you have the unit repair by Acer or someone else? I just want to rule out that a possible change in the TP didn't occur. Even if so, I understand it would be really frustrating without being specifically told and could cause a lot of issue for people.

I've looked through our records with our HQ and I don't see any specific issue being reported or a change in manufacturing that would account for other experiencing this issue. So I don't have enough information to say there is a systemic issue at this point. Hopefully if others are experiencing this issue they'll help us with more details.

Re: TouchPad gestures not working [Aspire V5]

Cory,

So here is something that might or might not matter. I work at a Microsoft Store, and we sold those laptops that had those issues. While most people might have not noticed the issue, I did. I bought one from my store for my uncle and noticed that the touchpad was super sensitive. I also noticed that gestures didn't work. That's when I realized that there were some issues. The software did nothing when I enabled/disabled gestures. After much tests I performed (such as install, remove drivers) I took it to work and worked with our tech to see maybe if they might have some opinions. We tried installing/reinstalling Elantech drivers, but no avail. Then, we searched information online and noticed that some V5 laptops used Synaptics drivers. We went on the Synaptics website, installed the drivers and suddenly, the TouchPad sensitivity went down, gestures started working. Everything was fine.

About three or so months later, I had to give personal training to a lady who had the exact same laptop. Curiously, I tried out gestures and noticed that it didn't work. After everything, I scheduled her an appoinment with a tech and had the issue resolves.

Why am I explaining all this? My idea is that when Acer was creating a special batch of laptops that were Microsoft Signature laptops, they might have either mistakenly preinstalled the wrong drivers or installed a different hardware. I don't know if there were more customers that had that sort of issue, but I know I did and that one customer had it too.

I hope that information might help. I really put emphasis on Microsoft Signature laptops, because those had the extra software removed and most like, accidentally had the wrong drivers preinstalled.

Re: TouchPad gestures not working [Aspire V5]

I have an Aspire V5 571P-6642.  I seem to be having the same problem.  My device manager doesn't even recognize it as a touchpad.  Instead, it shows it as a PS/2 Compatible Mouse with Microsoft driver version 6.2.9200.16384.

I also tried the link in Cory's first post in this thread and it did not even list a touchpad.

Re: TouchPad gestures not working [Aspire V5]

I looked up the hardware via s/n and it showed I have a Elantech touchpad.  I installed the latest driver, but the Device Manager still shows it as a "Mice and other pointing devices" located at "plugged into PS/2mouse port".

How do I get it to recognize it as a touchpad?

Re: TouchPad gestures not working [Aspire V5]

Touch pad stopped working on my Acer Aspire V5-431 and I came here.  First I plugged in a usb mouse so I could get around ok then I didn't find any real help here so I went to control panel on my laptop, device manager, mice and other pointing devices, and I removed the Elan PS/2 device.  I then restarted the computer and it found the touch pad, reinstalled the correct driver and the touchpad was working fine. Try it.

Re: TouchPad gestures not working [Aspire V5]

I have an Aspire V5-122P-0408 on which the touchpad began to work intermittantly a couple days ago.  The cursor would disappear from the screen then reappear seconds later.  Yesterday, it disappeared altogether.  I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it a couple times.  Upon reboot after an unistall, I would see the cursor for a second or so, then it would be gone.  Now, I cannot detect the mouspad, it does not appear in the hardware lists, and the Elan/EDT properties screen does not even show a driver or the touchpad.  I just downloaded the driver and .exe files again, but no touchpad.  Do I have a hardware issue, or is there another recommendation you have?

Thank you.
