So I hope that someone who is working at Acer reads this. Or someone who is technically advanced.
So I first noticed the issue with sensitivity. The mouse was really sensitive. I then noticed that the gestures don't work either. I cannot scroll using the mouse. So I went into great depths and tried to figure out the problem (but no solution).
So I performed these steps:
So here I am right now. I got the laptop for a good discount from my work (as a bonus of working there). It was a one time discount. As you noticed, I mentioned that it was recognizing it as "Standard PS/2 Mouse". That is the huge clue that tells me that the drivers are really buggy. The issue here is that the TouchPad drivers are not recognized like it is a TouchPad, but as a Mouse. A mouse that can only do right click, left click.
If anyone is facing this issue or knows how to resolve it, please help me out.

There are a large number of "V5" models, but yours is not specified in your post.
I would suggest using the link right above the drivers listing, which says:

So I worked with a Microsoft Tech Support, and apparently the issue is on the Acer's side. The recovery partition automatically installed the Elantech Drivers for the TouchPad and the downloads website showed only Elantech drivers. After a bit of research, we found Synaptics drivers from their official website and everything started working normally. Please please please, fix that issue. I am frightened by how many customers will face that issue.

Dear VitaliyB,
I have the same problem, touchpad not working at all on my Aspire (slightly older model, AO722, running on Windows 7). My hardware list shows an Elantech touchpad, working correctly as a PS/2 mouse, so I tried to download and install the Elantech driver from the Acer website. Are you saying that downloading and installing the Synaptics driver from the Acer website solved your problem?

As I see this thread pick up, it appears that we have some different issues. If your issue is with a product other than a V5, please locate an appropriate thread or create a new thread in the correct section. I see VitalityB worked through his issue several months ago, but the 3 responses this week aren't providing enough detail to build on the fact that his computer was loading the wrong drivers, which we'll want to rectify if we can determine that there are consistent issues.
@totias - Please help by providing more information, what specific model do you have? Is your touchpad drivers also grey'd out?
@krosenkrantz - Please review some of our netbook threads to see if there are simliar issues or post in that section. The AO722 is a netbook manufactured some time before the V5s started rolling out, so I can't consider this the same issue.
@dhiren28 - I would start with the basics of downloading the most up to date driver, uninstalling the old and then install the new driver. If that doesn't work for you I'd recommend support. It's definitely an odd situation that only part of your touchpad does not work at all. These other issues revolve around the features of the touchpad working, not so much area's or sections failing to work.
Thanks,
Cory

Hey dhiren28. I recommend trying out the touchpad drivers from Synaptics. Acer really screwed up with a lot of their laptops by installing Elantech drivers, which did nothing. Try installing Synaptics:

Hey krosenkrantz, try installing Synaptics drivers from here: http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers
I really hope that Acer will take a note of this issue and fix it.

VitaliyB, Can you send me your Serial Number in a private message? I understand you have a V5, but I'm looking for specifically which V5 you have. I've check through many of our different models and I'm not seeing this issue and I can't really ask our HQ if there is an overwhelming issue without getting additional details first.
Also, we ship products with ELAN and Synaptic drivers, so if you have an ELAN touchpad, installing the synaptic drivers would not resolve your problem.
