Problem restoring system

I have a Aspire V5-571p which warranty expired a few months ago. The hard drive bit the dust and i purchased a new one. Spend $30 on the system recovery set. When i put the system disk it boot and when ask me to choose the type of recovery it asked me to boot in Legacy mode. Got to the bios changed to legacy mode, boot the disk and after a while asked me to boot in EUFI mode. frustrated call support and $20 later i was with an idiot for 1 hour and half that at the end told me tha i need to take the computer to a technician. I have already spend $100, i should have bought a Toshiba, never have this problems.

 

Does anyone has a clue?

What OS are you using? I will assume it is Windows 7 or 8. Does the unit have a cd/dvd drive? With this post I will give instruction for using the USB port on the right side of the unit.

 

You will need to run the OS recovery utility from a USB drive (formatted as NTFS) and navigate to its command prompt.

Files from a recovery cd/dvd can be copied to a USB drive on another computer. The USB drive should be 8GB (16GB might be ok.. not sure) or less.

 

  If you can not get it to boot from the USB drive you will need to remove the internal hdd until it boots up to the utility from the USB drive and then put that hdd back. With that process you can browse drivers strictly to get drive letters (or use the command prompt if you wish with the apporpriate commands). 

 

  After that use the command prompt to create a partition but leave 20GB unallocated. Fix/create the mbr on all the hdd partitions you create.  Omit the system recovery files from the USB drive and then put the OS installation files onto it. Power off the notebook and replace/use the USB drive to install the OS onto the larger partition you created (this may involve disconnecting/reconnecting the internal hdd again to get it to boot from the USB). The OS installation process should use some of the 20GB unallocated space to create its recovery partition(s) 

 

  Finally do not forget to install all the necessary drivers for the unit. AVG free (<-- make sure free basic version & not trial version) is a decent antivirus if you want a cheap solution.

It was not $30, it was $99!!!!!

Yes I did. Did not work. I just purchased win8.1
I'll try this way, otherwise is going in the trash

Hello there...

 

In same boat!!! Do you have your Laptop up and running? Did try and "follow that guide for partitioning the hard drive" ... really did not say anything other than remove partitions.

So, Did you just purchase win8.1 (straight form Microsoft?)

Not sure but that is the next step for me, I think?? crazy to see such an issue, and no actual help on the matter! Just trying to help a friend out and get her laptop up and running, for summer classes! Thought when i purchased the CD's from Acer, it would be done and over with... guess it is my luck.

PLS let me know what you have done to fix your's !

Hi, yes I did!
Should have done that from the beginning, would have save $30 for the rescue disks and $99!!! For the stupid guy at the acer support that didn't know.
Loading 8.1 went without a hitch. I don't have all the non sense extra software that acer puts in your computer. Only one driver, the one to read memory cards, I had to download from the acer site.
Expensive lesson to learn, I try to get my money back from the support but got nothing.

The crazy thing is that the guy at support told me to take the computer to a technician because it was hardware related. I kept saying that I thought it wasn't, he will agree with me and tell me again to take it to a technician because is somthug hardware related!?!?!?!?

I even lost my temper, which rarely happens to me.

WOW, sorry to read all this.

Due to the fact I am on my SECOND set of recovery discs. (did get them to send a replacement for the fisrt set, however, took 3wks to get, did pay next day the first time)

 

My issus is the same now, for both system recovery Disc for this laptop... meaning

 

I do have the laptop set to boot off the dvdram, when it does, (with the System disc installed) it goes through the motions, asking which lang. you want, then goes to the actual set up of restore, (asking if you want to restore OS to factory set up OR  Completely restore computer to factory) ,

NOW, in my case, either way, it will ask me to change boot to legacy....(knowning this is not right for win8) ...then, once booted again it tells me i have to change to EUFI, in order to install system... sort of a "boot-loop" with nothing happing!


OK, did format to fat, fat32, and ntfs... even have now used 2 completely different drives... as well as changing out the dvd drive, (thought might be issues there, always asking to chnage boot to different modes. win8-8.1 and updated 8.1 all use the newer format NTFS..)

Anyway, I have a 5lb paperweight at this point. since out of warrenty by a few months, there is no way i would "send it in" seeing how long it took for some CD's to get here. Plus, i have read sooo much about Acer, not fixing issues when a computer is sent back. PLUS, plus, how long it takes. at least 3 weeks, OH and of course i have to pay shipping both ways, not too sure if that is a honest answer.

Sounds as if I should just by the darn 8.1 and get it over with!!!

Hardly see a reply in less than 2 days atleast here!!

Can say had very nasty email sent back fromsomeone else reading the order for second set of discs... did not even read everything, telling me how i am "all jacked up" and i "did not do it right" really does get to me! Can say i blew that off!

So you are not alone with bad service from Acer.

in my case I just dont get why this is happeing the way it is...
