Hello Friends

I am having a problem upgrading the RAM on my machine. I have Acer Aspire V3 772G-5413.

This laptop came with 4 ram slots with two ram sticks:

  1. Slot 1 : 4 GB Kingston ram - 1600 MHz - Low Voltage
  2. Slot 3 : 4 GB Kingston ram - 1600 MHz - Low Voltage

I bought another 4 GB SK hynix ram - 1600 MHz - Low Voltage and install it in the slot number 2

The BIOS can see 12288 MB of Ram

In System properties, Installed 12 GB (Usable 7.88 GB)

I am using Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Can you please help me with this issue, what should i do.

Best Regards,

You must leave the default ram stick on their slots and install the new one on free slots only.

I am so sorry, my apologies to you.

I installed the new ram to slot number 2 NOT the slot number 3.

I did not change the positions of the ram sticks that came with the laptop

Please be sure that the new module has the same voltage and latency.

Using CPU-Z the ram has the same voltage and latency. Also I tried slot 4 with no luck

ok lets go against the law.....

try to switch between ram modules on different slots and see if all 12gb became available.

i don't know the MB ram limit by the way.

Ok. I will try switching between the slots but i am at work now ????.
Using PC wizard I found the following info:
    1- Main board is AcerVA70_HW
    2- Chipset is Intel HM86
3- Max. Module size: 32768 MB
4- I do not know if this will help - installed ram from Acer is (Kingston 4GB 1 ranks, 8 banks), the one i installed is (4GB 2 ranks, 8 banks). Does different ram ranks make a problem here?

I tried switching between the ram sticks but with no luck, the same behaviour (Installed 12 GB Usable 7.88 GB)

After two days, i will replace the ram i bought with an identical ram stick as installed by Acer.

I will let you know if this solves the issue.

    Thanks,

    Hello there,

I went back to the shop and replaced the ram stick with a kingston 4 GB ram stick. Nothing is changed (Installed 12 GB, Used 7.88 GB), worth to mention that the ram stick we tried is not exactly the same as installed (not the same color), but it is Kingston - 1600MHz - Low Voltage - same latency - 1 rank 8 banks.

The seller suggested to wait for a BIOS update from Acer that might fix the problem.

Also i do not know if the laptop is coverd in the local warranty, because i am from Jordan and i bought this laptop from TigerDirect by Amazon using shop and ship service Smiley Happy

Thanks you guys for the help. Smiley Happy
