Mic on 4830TG suddenly not working

Hello,

I spent 10 hours on a problem, and failed to fix it,  so I hope someone can help

I bought a new ASPIRE 4830TG - 6677 very nice it is too.  I am running windows 7

Suddenly last week, after 2 months, the mic stopped working.  It had been fine before.

I can hear sound on skype or itunes - but I cannot be heard on skype

It's just the mic is not recording my voice.  With a jack in or out, it makes no difference, those little green sound lines show no sign of life

Windows is up to date

Nor is the problem confined to skype - the mic doesn't work on the 'sound recorder'

Everything is in order - no silly boxes have been ticked or unticked by mistake. The mic sound levels are fine

I rebooted.  I reinstalled skype.  I did a rain dance and drank lucky potions.

But I am  defeated.

I happen to be working in Tanzania for 2 months, and haven't found anyone here who can help

I do 50% of my business on skype so this has gone from being frustrating, to my mood today is despondent

Can anyone think why the internal mic may suddenly not be working, and what I could do?

thanks, Paul

Have you checked to ensure that you do not have the microphone muted?

Have you attempted to uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers?

It's possible that you are having a hardware issue, but please check all software solutions first.

South Africa would likely be the closest service center.

Hi!  Did you resolve your issue?  I have an Aspire M3-581T (Japanese model of ultrabook) and have the same problem.  Someone suggested that I upgrade the soundcard driver (Realtek High Definition Audio) as a way of "reinstalling", but the automatic upgrade detection thing says it's already up to date, so it won't do anything.  I'm not sure where to find a driver to reinstall manually - I can't find anything about soundcards on the Realtek website (just codecs).
