You do not.  You need to be able to see a screen in order to flash BIOS.

Why are you needing to update the BIOS?

Have you attempted to connect the system to an external monitor?

I also have a "black" screen issue. Actually, the backlight is not working. From an angle, I can see what's displayed on the screen. The backlight has recovered by itself in the past (when I was working on the netbook using an external monitor), but it goes into "coma" from time to time. I have tried to replace the screen, but that did not help. I read somewhere here that this issue could be related to the BIOS, and a BIOS update may help. My netbook is using an older BIOS, and I want to know how to update it.

Backlight going out has absolutely NOTHING to do with the BIOS.

Please contact your local service center for assitance with the backlight issue.
