Re: Aspire v5 Black screen

Hi

I have an acer aspire 5551 with a problem similar to others on here. I had my laptop connected to my tv using a hdmi cable and accidently closed the laptop, when i opened it back up i just had a black screen so i turned it off and on again and still got a black screen, it doesn't show anything at all so i can't get into the bios or that. is there a fix for this?

Thanks

Keith

Re: Aspire v5 Black screen

Do you mean both the TV screen and the laptop screen are black?

Hi

No just the laptop. I can't do anything with it.

Re: Aspire v5 Black screen

OK. Have you tried to toggle the Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 display on/off key combinations yet?

Re: Aspire v5 Black screen

OK, next. With the HDMI out to the TV, does the system boot and show a TV display OK?

Re: Aspire v5 Black screen

This may sound redundant. Did you also just now, as you were trying to boot the system, try the Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 toggles to turn the TV display on?

Re: Aspire v5 Black screen

I misunderstood your earlier answer to my question of whether both the TV and the laptop display were black. And you indicated just the laptop. I was sorta hoping that the video ribbon cable from the MB to the display and webcam was the culprit either with a conductor break near the hinges(a frequent problem due to the stress of opening/closing the lid too much) or that it's connectors just needed to be re-seated a few times to clean off the contacts. The fact that you cannot get the Acer startup logo or  Windows to display on the TV suggests a video card failure.

You can try re-seating the video ribbon connectors at the MB and LCD display but I doubt it's gonna do you much good. You can also try a video new ribbon cable as they're less than $20 with free shipping from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Notebook-Compatible-numbers-DC020010L10-displays/dp/B005CYK0BI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=U... again, I suspect the video card itself has gone south.
