I recently purchased the erecovery disks for an Aspire5733 from Acer, but towards the end of recovery, got the error message that the image couln't be applied (I/O error). I've read that this could be an indication that the HD is failing. Setup (F2) on this laptop does'nt have a diagnostic option - is there any other way to verify the HD? Also read elsewhere that these recovery disks need files from the original HD in order to be used. If failing, can I replace the HD and still use the recovery disks I bought?
Thanks for any help.

Hi paullazorko
The recovery disks do not need files from the original HD. The disks contain everything themselves, so there is no worries there!
As for the I/O error - I agree, it certainly sounds as if the hard disk is faulty. If you wish to verify your HD, the best way is to connect it to another PC (either internally or if a laptop, then via a USB adaptor). Use Windows chkdsk to check the volume for errors.
In my personal experience, the I/O errors have always been due to dying hard drives.
