Did you use the Hardware Detection Tool to find out which wireless LAN adapter you have?

What devices do you have in Device Manager with a ! or X ?

    Hi,

I found the solution, I use Windows 8 driver for Wirless LAN (Atheros) and it worked fine.

    Cheers

    Hi George,

With me the problem was with Windows 7 32 bit and i tried driver of Windows 8 32 bit and that worked for me, i think you need to try driver of windows 7 for same means reciprocal of mine.

    Hi Mushtaq-

thanks again -i think i will get acer to admit compatibility problem-and sort it first.

as surely windows 8 drivers should be compatible with 8 system

    regards

I Currently have the same problem,

The wireless worked under the Pre Installed Windows 8 however we needed to downgrade to 7 for compatability reasons at work.

I saw the laptop supports Windows 7 on the site but after installing I have no WIFi and the hardware detection tool doesnt detect the card.

Here is a copy of the post I have just submitted over at 7 Forums:

    "Hello

I have a slight problem at the moment, My brothers company have just purchased a new laptop and didnt realise that they were going to have problems running it with some of their job software as it was supplied with Windows 8 on.

They have purchased Windows 7 (so all the systems are the same) but since installing 7 the wireless card no longer works or is recognised.

I have had a look, It appears there are 3 variants of the Network adapter.
    Acer Nplify 802.11 b/g/n
    - Intel
    - Broadcom
    - Atheros

Acers website list the laptop as supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8 and have downloadable drivers on the site for 7 & 8 along with 32 and 64 bit versions.

Not being able to work out what card was installed (the Hardware vendor detection tool didnt pick any up) Iproceeded to test the drivers one at a time but cant get the laptop to recognise the card under Windows 7.

After doing a bit of reading I noticed someone had a similar issue that was rectified by installing the Woindows 8 Drivers,

I have tried this, 2 of them would install but one said it wasnt supported under Windows 7 but still no network card detected.

When it was purchased the laptop was able to access the internet using the Wireless card running pre installed Windows 8.

Could anyone help shed some light on a possible fix?

Thanks for reading this (and thanks in advance for any responses)

    In Control Panel, Under Device Manager I am showing '!' on;

    -Other Devices
    -- ! Base System Device
    -- ! Base System Device
    -- ! Ethernet Controller
    -- ! Network Controller
-- ! PCI Simple Communications Controller"

If anyone can help id be very greatful! Smiley Very Happy

Just got off the phone with Acer and they refused to offer any unpaid support on the laptop even though it is less than a day old because I changed the operating system to Windows 7, Yet when I type in my serial number into acers support site it clearly lists the exact same laptop and all hardware as supporting Windows 7 yet the drivers they supply for download dont work.

All I want is a working driver Smiley Sad

After much faffing about I have finally done it!!

Made sure i installed all the chip drivers etc first, fully extracted all available drivers (for the 3 variants of the wireless adapter) into one folder.

Went into device manager, right clicked on the conflicting device and told windows to search the folder. Job Done!

    Happy Days!

Sorry for the delay.. Havent had a chance to get on here.

    Okay, heres what I did:

    First,

Download all drivers from the site for all variants of the network adapter you have. Also download all other drivers (chipset etc..)

    Second,

Install the chipset drivers for the processor

    Third,

Go into control panel > Device manager and in the network adapters uninstall/remove every driver

    Fourth,

Create a folder in an easy place (lets say the desktop) find the network adapter drivers you have downloaded and fully extract all of them into this new folder.

    Fifth,

    Re-Start your computer

    Sixth,

Once computer has re started go back into device manager in control panel and find the Conflicting/unknown network hardware and choose to install drivers from specific location (not allow windows to search)

Select the folder where everything was extraced to (on desktop?) and make sure than scanning sub folders is enabled.

Click to continue. Windows should then find the correct driver file and successfully install.

This is what I did, sorry I cant give a more thorough step by step but it was a couple of weeks ago and for someone elses laptop. (im typing this reply on my Mac so cant double check what all the options are but the above info hopefully is enough to get you through)

Its a shame that Acer cant (or should I say wont) provide help, They sent me a customer satisfaction survey and lets just say I have filled it in truthfully!!

Hope I have been able to provide some help though Smiley Very Happy

Thank you for your inputs on getting the driver installed, but blaming the manufacturer is improbable, its like expecting the a dentist to treat for a broken bone. The manufacturer can only provide the drivers for OEM operating system that came installed, if we wish to change the operating system to our desired one, its  fundamental to buy a product without an operating system and fight on our own for the drivers. This is a personal experience with a different manufacturer though and that's when I realized. No offences to anyone.

This fix worked twice for me on two different laptops where the wi-fi adaptor 'disappears'. It has just worked today on a E1-571 where there was no device in the device manager, and the wi-fi adaptor refused to show after a win 8 reset.

I'd tried every Acer driver for win 8, with no sucess. I had the qualcomm atheros wi-fi adaptor.

Basically, i think that the Acer driver is missing some low level component that the following fix rectifies.

    If you install http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-adapters/WNA3100.aspx#tab-support
(this is the software install for a little stubby usb wi-fi stick)

The low level system wi-fi components are re-instated, then install your qualcomm driver. (i've done it both ways round and it seems to work)

Then suddenly the wi-fi networks appear Smiley Happy   (a reboot is good as well at this point)

For me it turned out to be the Intel wireless driver. The LAN driver was Broadcom. It's interesting that the ACER hardware detection tool only specified Broadcom LAN, but did not state anything related to wireless card or Intel. This led me to try only the Broadcom drivers until I read your post.

THANKS!!!  Now i have wireless on my downgraded WIN 7.
