How do i fix my internet  connection for a windows 8 laptop i really need help plz reply

This is regarding an Acer Aspire V3-731-4470. I have updated the Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 wifi driver to version 10.0.0.225. The problem that I was trying to fix was a slow connection. Running an Internet speed test at speedtest.shaw.ca resulted in an average download speed in the order of 1Mbps (The old XP desktop I have setup gets around 50Mbps). Updating the driver did not fix the issue. I should note that this is a new machine and after playing with it for a while I too received the limited connectivity issue, and I believe is the same problem being discussed in this thread.

1) Can somebody who has 'fixed' their limited connectivity issue by updating the driver confirm that they are getting proper download/upload speeds?

2) I read that there may be a conflict between Bluetooth and wireless. I may be wrong, but if that is true wouldn't disabling the Bluetooth devices in device manager eliminate the conflict? When I tried this I still am getting terrible transfer rates.

I went to device manager and disabled the bluetooth from there and the problem went away, never use the bluetooth on the laptop anyways so it was a solution for me but might not be for everybodey.

To add to the lat post the laptop was problematic with WIFI right out of the box, tried updating to new BIOS and would not allow it to happen, kept saying there was some conflict preventing the update so could never try that approach.  Updated the driver and did not help.  Could not update the BIOS AND DRIVER which some seem to indicate works so in the end just disabled the Bluetooth.  I would first try to update BIOS and DRIVER and if that doe snot work disable Bluetooth from Device manager.

Pretty sad that Acer can't work to fix this.

my sister also just got recently bought Aspire V5, the same problem, the connections gets disconnected, every now and then...usually in 1 min time then goes back...it has been annoying since my sis bought this mainly for internet usage...pls address this problem..

Just an update/summary...

I tried using AcerUpdate which provided driver 10.0.0.218 and that didn't work.

I also tried to update to the latest 10.0.225 driver via the ACER support website and that didn't work either.

I tried to refresh Windows 8 and update the drivers just in case and that did not work either.

Disabling blutooth from device manager did not work, nor did turning bluetooth on.

One thing I noticed, but did no research on is that the sticker on the machine said "802.11 a/g/n". Other machines in the store are "b/g/n". I'm not sure if maybe it's using "a" and my router doesn't support it, but if you are having this problem you may want to look into it.

Since the machine was brand new I gave up and decided to return the ACER notebook to Future Shop and purchase a different brand which worked fine out of the box, which included current drivers.

ACER, if your listening, it would be nice if when I buy a brand new computer it worked or could easily be updated. The whole experience reminded me of Compaq.

I found the only perfect solution, i changed the PCI-E wifi card to an old Atheros AR9285, and it works like a charm, much faster, no disconnections. For ~10 euros you can get a used one, you wont regret it, i can guarantee...

Hi Guys,

I tried everything, downloaded the driver from Acer but the version is 10.0.0.217 and Acer does say that we need higher version and yet they have not put a updated version. Anyway I purchased a TP-Link wireless usb stick and uninstalled the Atheros card inside the pc and used the usb wireless instead and I have not had even once loss of connectivity. So if you dont mind spending about £10 then I suggest you buy one, at least until Acer sort out the issue.

Hi I bought an Acer V3-771G and like most people I had the problem where it just drops the internet connection. I did some research and it seemed to be a windows 8 problem so I put windows 7 on instead but the problem still exists. Any ideas how toresolve the problem
