Re: Acer wifi limited connectivity issue

sorry, no meaning to threadcrap, but I have a simnilar issue, but I think in someway different.

Occasionally I get the limited connectivity thing, and no internat access on the network.  This only happens on a fresh boot, or a reboot.  It never dies in the middle of a session - so I think I don't have nearly as bad a problem as this thread is looking at.

I haven't found a cure at the netbook end, I just reboot the router and the netbook reconnects and it's fine and dandy.  I am sure it is something perhaps to do with over conjested airways now (It's not built up around here, but there are about 6 wifi networks listed). I've tried switching router channels and other bit n peices and it seems to make this issue less frequent.  Too many things to look at, and I don't think it's the netbook side of things - I don't reboot that, just thr router and all is well.  I think it's just perhaps a handshake issue between the two.

Re: Acer wifi limited connectivity issue

[ Editado ]

Ok Guys, I am an unlucky owner of a V5-571G laptop and I have been suffering continuous disconnections for 3 months. You all can imagine how is my feeling with Acer now, I will NEVER buy anyting else from this company of noobies.

by the way, here there is the problem and here the is the SOLUTION. It works for all PCs of family V3 and V5, and has been find by someone in an italian forum  named PCTRIO (you can find it here). NO WAY to solve the problem via software, at least not with a version that is up to 251...just tried it and it does not work.

The problem is: when the driver tries to switch Antenna for Antenna Diversity algorithm, it crashes some  how.

The question is: WHY THE HELL Acer still didn't go out with a driver that just STOP antenna Diversity and let us work?

The solution is: stop hardware the Antenna Diversity, that means disconnect one of the two antennas.

I know, it is pretty tricky, you have to unmount your laptop, but believe me is easy and fast. Here the procedure (thanks to Gerardo that posted solution and pictures on Pctrio forum):

1- Remove all the screws you have on the back of your laptop. Actually, you only need to remove those screws that hold the keyboard, but as I don't know which they are in the different models, I suggest you to remove all of them, or at least the ones  that are "in the center". You can actually decide not to remove the screws "on the border", as they can't be holding the keyboard.

2- turn your laptop, open the display revealing the keyboard (be care here, if you have actually removed ALL the screws, you could have removed the ones that was holding display in its posittion, so opebn it carefully).

3- using something like a credit card, remove the keyboard. It is hold by some hook but it is pretty easy to remove, just insert a card and press down, you will hear a "click" of the hook coming out.

Use a credit card

Do that all around and you will have your keyboard detached. Once you have freed all the hooks, DO NOT pull your keyboard as you were Hulk, there is a cable connecting the keyboard to the laptop, so BE GENTLE and everyting will be fine. No need to detach that cable, justy set the keyboard aside.

4- on the left of the laptop, you will see a little rectangular hole in the metal shield you will see the final part of two cables, one black and one white. The black is to the left, the white to the right. Just disconnect the black one (it is not soldered, you can easily disconnect it just pulling up the connector). Here you can see a picture of these two cables:

Cables

In order to be sure that the cable does not make any short circuit once you close again your laptop, just put a piece of tape on the connector, put above the cable and fix it with another piece of tape.

5- close the laptop again and you are done. If anyone need help in doing it, just write me an email (you should see my email address here), I will help for free everybody who promise me to never buy again Acer products :smileyhappy:

For the ones who knows italian, This is the link to the discussion on italian forum.

enjoy

Re: Acer wifi limited connectivity issue

For those experiencing this problem there is a simple fix that took 3 weeks for me to find but I no longer am having issues.

Download the Atheros Wireless LAN Driver form the Acer drivers site, us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers, search by model # (V5-571p) as the seriel number or SNID search box did not work for me. At the bottom of the driver list you will see two Wireless LAN drivers, download the Atheros one. Once downloaded click on the apllication file named setup. Allow the setup program to run and when it asks if you want to replace or repair, you want to 'repair'. That should end your problem.

I did not need to do this but I saw on the same post that gave the above information that if you are still having difficulty download and run the setup file two more times, choose 'replace' the first time and 'repair' the second time.

Re: Acer wifi limited connectivity issue

hey gud people,

search for control panel . you then look for network and tasks and click on the tab.
You should see an option to change settings in the tiop left corner of your screen. the network connectuions should be displayed together with the other connections like ethernet and stuff. Right click on the wifi tab and then click on diagnose. after diagnoses check on the indicatorlights for the wifi that can be found bottom left corner ofyour laptop. you can now click on the apply fix. your wireless problem should be fixed!
