I used a 16GB drive for my R7-571 Recovery, and I've seen others say the same. But you're the second person I've seen saying they need 32GB. I wonder if newer R7-572 models or some regions require more than 16GB for recovery?
I hope it's not just Acer bloatware making us spend more on backups that Acer really should be providing for us anyway!

ahhhh...gotcha...that's probably it. Sucks that I have to head back and get a 32gb now instead of a 16 :-/ Thanks.

Didn't want to make a whole new topic for this question, cause it's pretty related. Sorry for reviving an old thread...
My question is, as far as performance goes, would I be better off installing a bigger SSD in the mSATA drive to replace the 24GB SSD that's currently in there or would I be better off replacing the 500GB HDD with a (smaller than 500GB) SSD?
I have the Aspire R7 571-6858
Thank you!
Oh, also, since you guys seem to be really knowledgeable, is this okay to switch out for the 2GB RAM? [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8
And there's no way to put a graphics card on this, right?
Sorry for all the unrelated questions... Again, thanks!

Easy one first: no, it's not a laptop with MXM, so you cannot change the graphics card or add a new one.
That memory looks fine: 204-pin, DDR3-1600. Do you have the 6GB model? 6GB should be fine - are you filling your memory? I managed to fill my 4GB model when running Civ V at the same time that I'd left a few dozen Chrome tabs open! Then again, you may be right - that memory will be shared between your CPU's graphics as well as the system. I have the separate GPU with its own memory.
I physically removed my HDD, and I've been doing great with just an msata 128GB drive. Less weight and less battery drain. If you can get a bargain on a 256GB msata SSD, that should be enough. Whack the 500GB HDD in a USB3 enclosure, perhaps.

Hi,
I just installed a samsung 256 840 msata. I kept the 1 TB drive and used samsung's cloning software. I am able to boot directly into the msata. But, the OS would "crash" almost every 30 seconds. It remains in windows but the whole desktop "blinks" and it cycles back to the main desktop. What could be happening? I made a back up to a USB drive before I cloned the original drive. Should I do a re-install into the MSATA? Should I remove the 1 TB before re-installing?
Thanks!

Thank you! I'm actually doing the exact thing right now, it seems to be working. I'm now booted from the SSD and downloading all my windows updates and so far so good too. Thanks!
