I have not had the problem when I was very, very, very certain that 1) I did not touch anywhere near the power switch and 2) I never created a motion (jar the computer) such that it would provide inertia to the switch in the direction that would cause the switch to close. (Example: If you hit the computer on the opposite side or set it down on the opposite side, the inertia of the mass of the button, itself, would tend to cause the button to depress.)
The possibility is that it is not broke, it is just a poor design (choice of switch) that yielded a portable that is only (safely) portable in the off state.

I have had this same problem recently. Bought my computer about 2 months ago and it worked great for the first few weeks. However, whenever I move it slightly, hold it on my lap, or slide it across a surface (all normal things), it shuts down. But, when I close it, it doesn't go to sleep and opens a lot of random programs. I've lost work because of these issues. At first I thought it was a virus, so I had it checked, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I think I will be taking this computer back and exchanging it for a different model since it seems to be a problem for many R7s. Thank you for posting about this issue!

Well what do you know! I tightened those two screws and no shutdowns. In easel mode, movie, tablet mode, moving it around!
This is good!!
Thanks for the tip. Now am a much happier camper!

Hi,
I had the same problem and tightening the screws helped!
Thanks for the tip - hope it is a permanent solution..
However, the PC does not go to sleep when I close the lid, and the touch screen then registers input from the close contact with the facing keyboard, which can easily lead to data loss.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Tightened those screws and that fixed the problem! I've only had it randomly turn off a single time since I tightened the screws three weeks ago (I was holding the PC by the power button). Definitely pleased! THANK YOU ACER technician for your help!

Here I am, less than 4 weeks later, and my R7's back to it's old ways. Haven't gotten to tightening the screws again. I figured if I had Best Buy screw them good n tight, it would be a one time thing. Now I am finding that I might need to invest in the proper screwdriver and tighten them once a month.

Thanks "Acer Cory"..... but one of the screws is covered with a sticker saying "warranty void if seal is broken".... what to do?

Is there any reason why tightening those screws would lead to charger failure?
No, tightening the screws only provides a safety feature for the battery. Even if they weren't tightened, the AC Adapter would work if functional. I would suggest asking more questions about what happened or contact your local support team regarding the failure.
