Hi there,
same problem with my R7. I own it since 1 week now and today for the first time the battery status indicator in the task bar shows "no battery detected". After moving the notebook a little it re-detected the battery. Reading the other forum posts here, I am afraid that this might become the beginning of a long Odyssey...
Due to the nature of the problem, to me seems a kind of loose connection, and the description / solution of logonaniket seems quite conclusive...
I just ask myself, why doesn't acer address this obviously quite serious issue here on the forum. If the solution was that simple, why don't they just inform us here on the forum about what to do? This is what I would expect form a well organized cusomer-service.
ACER, please come up with a quick solution here! If logonaniket was correct, just inform your service centers globally about what to do, make sure that cases brought forward are dealt with within let's say 24 hrs, and inform us here in the forum accordingly. That's it!

I have the same issue with my new r7. I feeled happy for a couple of weeks enjoying a beautifull screen but...
The problem is when laptop is disconected from the power cord. Just have to hold a back right corner of the base while moving. Basicly is touching/pushing the area above the power plug on the base make r7 is shut itself off. When power plug is connected no issue at all. Looks like I'm not alone with that problem ![]()

...Hello ACER...? ...HEEEEEEELLLOOOOOOOOOOO...!...
...you might not have recognized it yet, but you have a real serious issue with your R7 battery connection here... and? ...don't you wanna address it? Until now it seems that all of the R7-owners here treat you very well by nicely asking you for a solution WITHIN this forum. But you seem to prefer to remain quiet.
So what's your plan? You wanna wait until a general product-recall-campain becomes necessary?
Maybe you ACER guys think this over and finally come up with an better idea!

You only have 3 pages with this one. The WIFI issue is over 70 pages and they have done nothing, so if you are expecting something from them, good luck. ![]()

I too am having the random power shutoffs. And yes, it's after I've moved it and happens whether or not I have it plugged in or not. It seems odd, considering that you are supposed to be able to use this as a tablet. You unplug it, move the screen to tablet and then zap - done - instant and complete shut down.
I've also had it, after a move where it still works, shut down by itself while plugged in. Really, REALLY annoying since it gives me little comfort or assurance that the machine will continue to work.
I love this laptop - don't get me wrong. Even after buying an external DVD drive, an external WIFI adapter (yup - the wifi that comes with the laptop doesn't work well on mine either), and an external dongle for ethernet (I see they've finally come out with the adapter that does VGA and Ethernet - too late! Sigh), I still like the machine.
BUT this power off has happened often enough that Win 8 decided the only way to get Windows working again was to reset the laptop back to FACTORY!! Goodbye Windows 8.1 update. Goodbye software I had installed (the FUN of reinstalling Office - oh yay!).
Anyone else have this problem besides the people above me. Mine's outside the BestBuy warranty but any other thoughts? Since it's like a new machine again, I guess Acer is the next stop - GRRRR!!

I have had the same problems with my R7. After reading all these threads, it just occurred to me how the problem may have come about. I had my R7 for weeks before I noticed the problem, and I think I started noticing the problem after I changed the display settings to (allow automatic change of orientation when screen is moved). At first, the screen worked great, but the next time I tried lifting my computer, it immediately shut down. To test my theory, I lifted my computer doing my absolute best to keep to perfectly level. I was able to move it from one room to another while perfectly level. I currently have the feature tuned off so my screen won't automatically change. I'll try again here in a second to tilt my entire laptop to see if that causes the issue. I'm guess the mechanism that recognizes weight shift is faulty, or interfering with the power to the laptop. I'll fill in later.

I want to confirm that the R7 has a security feature that requires the pressure from the middle screws to be applied so that the battery will discharge properly. This is in place to prevent discharge when the unit is being disassembled. I'm including a picture of the R7 I have along with the screws that are involved in this process. They required a torx #8 to tighten. I would be interested to see if anyone who continues to have this problem can try this and tell us if it is resolving your issue.
If you can't tighten the screws, or if you have and you continue to experience issues, it is recommended that your local support team.
