Jack,
Just to clarify, are you talking about the volume adjustment in the bottom right of the screen that responds to the sound? It has a speaker icon at the top and "Mixer" at the bottom and with the meter responding to the sound between.

Yep, John. When you click on it without headphones plugged in you should see a speaker image. When the phones are plugged in, the speaker image should change to a headphone image in a minute or so.

Jack,
The earphones have been pluged in for about 8-10 minutes but there is no change in the icon.

OK, John. That's sort of a good sign to me as it means the physical contacts inside the jack probably aren't stuck in the "headphones in" position. I'm guessing the audio driver may have somehow been corrupted during the failed bluetooth installations. So, assuming there are no longer any traces of bluetooth drivers in device mgr (you uninstalled them, right?), my next move would be to uninstall the realtek audio driver in device mgr and let Windows try to re-install a fresh copy of the driver on rebooting.

Blimey, Thats sounds pretty spooky. OK, I'll ake the plunge.

OK, gone through that but no attempt to reinstall Realtek. Current info is:
till no sound through speakers

Well, looks like your almost but not quite back to square one. Windows seems to have reinstalled the realtek HD driver that you uninstalled at 8:26pm. But it's apparently not turned on for some reason, ie "status: 0"
In speakers property, please note "use this device(enable) v". What options are available when you click on the "v"?

Hi Jack,
Sorry for delay, I've been at work all day.
The options availble are "Use this device (enable)" and "Don't use this device (disable)"

I think you want to enable it. Did you go thru the troubleshooter? Sometimes, but not often, they actually work. 8^)
