Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 8530-5864 Model MS2249. Problem----When I press power button,

What it doesn't do----Screen won't light up and hard drive does not turn and hard drive light not blinking. I removed the hard drive and still screen not lighting up. I've done the reset ( unplugged power adaptor from laptop, removed battery and held down power button for 60 sec), did that procedure  several times.

What is does----power light comes on, fan runs, dvd drive will open, volume grid on right hand side lights up and when I slide my finger up and down the volume grid it still works as it should when you turn the volume up and down.

I've searched all over the internet with the problem I described and couldn't find any results except for people saying it's the CMOS battery and others saying  to do a BIOS recovery.

Does anyone have any ideas or have had similar problems and were able to repair.

    bandf,

It does sound like it has a hardware problem. Unfortunately, it could be quite a few things; CPU, memory, BIOS corrupt. Have you connected an external monitor to see if you get a display at all, there could be a problem with the LCD cable that is preventing it from working correctly, this might help deduce if the motherboard itself could be defective.

    Hi Justin,

I tried an external monitor as you said, still didn't work. Took out memory, all hardware still no go. I guess it's now cheaper to buy new again. Thanks for responding, much appreciated.

    Have a great day.
