Acer Aspire 5820t-6401 power/freezing issue

So I've been doing a little research and it appears that many people have had this same problem as me with this model laptop Aspire 5820T. Basically the computer operates perfectly with no issues if the ac adapter is unpugged. However, if the ac adapter is plugged in and the computer does a cold boot, meaning it hasnt warmed up or been running at all, at some point either during the boot process or a couple minutes after it the system freezes completely and the fan goes to max speed and all I can do is force shut it down. This also happens if I allow it to boot unplugged and then plug in the ac adapter. The only time the computer does not freeze when the AC adapter is plugged in is if the cpu is warmed up, or under stress. I find if I boot the laptop up on battery and open up a semi-graphics intensive game and play for a few minutes, or just let the system run for 10 - 15 minutes, and then plug in the ac its the only way it will not freeze. It appears to be a common issue many people have with this laptop.

Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks

Given the information that you have provided, it sounds like there may be an issue with the mainboard or related power system that requires the system to be 'at temp' in order to stay operational.  This would be an issue that could only be corrected by service on the affected component.  As to which component?  I really do not know, it would take some investigation of the boards in the system to determine.
